Is orianna support any good? And who are other good supports you don't typically see such as karma?

ori support is ok, karma is pretty good. My favorite off support is either galio or brand

ori support is only good if you can't actually farm with ori

Basically with how supports were reworked last season anyone can theoretically support and be helpful in some way. What it comes down to is who can do it "best". What makes a good support, means to provide some form of peel and/or strong engage. Orianna will typically provide some decent follow up engage as well as some mediocre peel. Ori seems to work as a support due to her shield and its defensive bonuses (which do not scale with ap, meaning you get the full effect of the stat increase immediately upon moving the ball to a target) and her W's slowing/ speed up effect (which also doesn't scale with ap). Orianna also benefits from lane harass due to her passive auto attack damage. Q can be used to check nearby bushes and around corners. Your ultimate won't have the game changing impact most people would expect from an Orianna due to your lack of ap items but it can still be useful for the cc and the base damage is still... okay. But you have to use that ult to it's fullest effect if you want to run her as support. Also, Ori is mana hungry so spamming your abilities will quickly make you oom. You probably wont be using Q for anything other than checking a few bushes. Also, your cooldowns are pretty high until you get a nice chunk of cdr and even then you still have to have good timing. So, Orianna support can work, it just isn't high tier.

It can be useful for wambo combo's. Need someone that can help Yasuo but dont want to play Alistar ?

Velkoz and Shen

Vel'Koz dropped off people's radar for some reason but he is so strong with loads of cc. Plus when you hit six you straight up get a free double kill so there's that.

Shen takes more finesse because your only engage is your taunt. But he is manaless and can poke forever with his Q as well as heal both you and your ADC off of it. Helps to prevent tower dives due to the taunt and has good tanky support items you can build giving your team a global ult and yet another tank for the comp but he is situational at best. Fun to pick against Blitzcrank but gets poked against ranged lanes.

I don't really know about if she's seen or not, but I just LOVE my Nami support. Knock-up, heal, on hit slow that can be used on allies, and another knock-up. Nami is love. Nami is life.

orianna is a viable support, mainly because of her ability to speed up allies, slow down enemies, shield allies from damage, and her ult pulls in enemies, she has to build items that don't burst damage, otherwise (like i've experienced with ori as supp), you'll just end up killing everyone. for a support, I usually main champions that have some sort of slow/snare/stun/root thing. e.g. lux, sona, morg. I find it easier for your adc to deal damage and get kills
