Stop Reworking Champions, Just Make New Ones (suggestion)

The champion must have made sense when you first created it, Riot. If it made sense before, it should make sense now. Just update things like graphical appearance and balancing skill sets. Then use the ideas from reworks for new champions.

Honestly, they should rework champions over new ones. There are already what, like 140 champions? I would rather have the older OG champs brought up to date, than for them to be completely left in the dust.

That's incorrect actually. Sometimes a champion design doesn't really hit the mark due to technological limitations at the time or just didn't have a clear goal (a lot of the early champions were more based on "generic X". Generic werewolf, generic vampire (though Vlad isn't one the connection is obvious) generic zombie warrior, generic armored villain, etc). So they just did whatever worked at the time. Some of these kits haven't aged well or don't abide by Riot's gameplay design philosophy as they better developed it (or the kits just never worked well/were never very healthy).

Now Riot reworks them to better fit what the champion is or as a better version of the intended archetype.

Abandoning a champ if he becomes unviable is something Riot can't afford. Someone spent money on that champ and skins. Reworking him to make him viable again and/or balanced is the next logical step.

A lot of the oldest champion kits were made with almost no knowledge of how they would be used. Riot has admitted that abilities like Zilean's old Q were literally made by going with the first thing that came to their head while trying to think of a damage spell he could have because he needed a damage spell. They also used to hold themselves to a strict champion release schedule (2 weeks at the start of the game, eventually slowing down until at some point they realized they should just release champions when they're done) which meant that they had to release a champion even if not everything really worked together correctly.

Even if not for those situations, it's ridiculous to think that a group of people can get everything perfectly right the first try. Even in situations where Riot gave a champion all the time in the world to get everything right, some negative impacts of a kit simply do not reveal themselves until the champion has been in games for a long time and people start to notice the patterns they create.

If it made sense before, it should make sense now.

Do you honestly believe League of Legends is the same game it was in Season 1? Do you even believe it's the same game it was in season 6? Things change.

DrMundo What about Mundo who has 4 passives? Couldn't that be reworked into something a little more... active?

The older champions for the most part have kits that "look" right 9 years ago, but don't "feel" right after the champions and their lores got more fleshed out. The point of reworks is to help the champions "feel" right with a lot clearer thematic abilities. Look at old Warwick's E compared to new Warwick's E. Old WW gave an AOE attack speed buff, ok how? He did a small growl and your team attacks faster because they think he might eat them. New WW now has a howl that scares people enough for them to run away and gives him the ability to survive when he jumps a target with his ult.

Reworks tend to be better for champions and a lot of times no other champions (old or new) have the ability to fit the theme of the spells Riot is giving them with their new kits.

Dude. You are horribly wrong. Look at someone like Nunu or Cho'Gath. Sure, they work, just like a 30 year old car can still work, but they are slobbering potatoes compared to new champions like Camille, Kled, or even Ivern. Their kits have lost a lot of usability as years progressed and the champion design got more intricate - to the point where older champions can become hideous (graphics have come a long way) and their kits completely made irrelevant by new designs. Ignoring these champions is not the way to make the game better. Updating them to compete with current designs is, and is far better than continuously pumping out new characters while old ones rot away into irrelevance.
