Am I the only person that feels like mages got shafted in preseason?

Lost our early spell pen and the introduction of magic damage shields has made mages weaker in trades and also bought forgiveness for champs that should be getting bullied. I did a QW5 ball ult as Syndra as Janna with morellonomicon and she only went down to like a third HP which is kinda nuts when she didn't even build any magic resistance at the time. I'm not saying I should just get to shaft any squishy support I see but at the same time it just feels like mage damage is awkwardly low in the early game at present.
