Not even in bronze should it be acceptable to have zero preparation to support if you have to, but in gold ( and this isnt the first time ive dealt with this ) I just had a match where I went support even though its one of my last roles, for this other person to go mid, because he didnt even OWN a support champion. He even went 3/14 and was doing a great job to put the team on tilt with his attitude as a gift to me.

When I told her to stick with the team in bigger groups instead of dying in random spots across the map alone or with just one teammate nearby, her first response was to snap at me at how I have died aswell after doing risky things, while she had 2x more deaths caused by risky actions, and 2x less assists than me.

Not an excuse for not owning a support champ and knowing the basics of how to play support.

As an example if you play bot, you ( by proxy ) should know both roles there even if you only normally play 1.

You should know at least the basics of all roles. For me, mid is my worst role, but I still have a few champs that I CAN play there. Maining top; support and jungle were easiest to pick up for me. It took me like a month to get the basics of adc, but now I can play Ashe, MF, Trist, and Cait to some effectiveness.

I'm NOT saying know every matchup by heart in roles that you don't play well, but know how every role works and how to play passively and aggressively in every lane. This means you can win even if you get a role you suck at, meaning you don't have to tank the LP loss as much.

Since almost no one mains support in low elos, learn warding techniques, how to peel and how to setup kills, I guarantee this will help you no matter what role you play (especially warding techniques, saves me so many deaths and gains me just as many kills).

TL;DR, own at least 1 champ in every role, and learn the basics of said roles. Only then can you actually start to improve in skill.

Not to mentioned new champ select will be the end of this mentality entirely.

That's true, but supports are still a rarer sight.

Sill, you don't want to be the one stuck with an adc who can't position for shit, you could learn a bit about the role so fewer people rage when you get an off-role.

Of course learn and master your main role above all others, that only makes sense, but if you play normals, going off-roles every so often won't kill you.

Essentially, don't be the guy who cannot help being detrimental to the team. Not knowing is not an issue, but not wanting to know is.

And yes I get that at higher elos the supports and mids and junglers are better and you want to learn from them because of such; that does not mean bronze level support knowledge won't keep you through the 1/25-1/35 games you need to be the support until you reach high elo.

Why? Were literally a month away from never having to play a role we don't like ever again.

I agree. This is how I learned to become a Support and I'm now a Support main.

First time I played Nami in Ranked looked like this; https://i.gyazo.com/088f12d1bdf7f277d355384fed8bbd79.png

Placed a whole 2 wards (both pinks) and killed 1.

Then have someone nice who can play support.

It worked for me.

I'll dodge any game where I have to adc. I don't care if I'm in my promos either.

This thread is outdated and a waste of time. We are a handful of patches at most from ranked teambuilder. Noone has to be play roles they dont like anymore, that shits archaic.

In a draft mode, you have zero right to claim ignorance on a role and hope to get away unpunished. You're going to get a lane you hate/don't know eventually(unless you are internet famous) so you owe it to your team to know it.
