MMR: Is it honestly a thing, or even working correctly?

So, I've been trying to help my friend grind to level 30, and we're both at least Silver ranked. But playing teambuilder/draft is difficult at this point because we seem to be playing too well for the other random players on our team.

• Copengrizzly and I would ping for each lane, telling whos missing, ping to where ever we're going if we're going to help a lane.
• We'll help the players out if they're doing poorly, ie, tips on how to play their character, if they need to ward their lanes more. But in general we feel as if we're playing too well because I would go 15/10/9 as Karthus jungle, helping every lane I could, and he would help gank as Heimerdinger because he's already pushed his lane enough where as ADC and support are feeding a broken Vi.
