Grades, ranks, experience
The main question of this thread - How the heck is this possible that the team ranking system is used as the main ranking system to rate individual player skill??? And no one actually said anything about it yet? Would it be possible to build a ranking system based on player experience and the game rating score we get at the end of the each match (D C B+ A S S+ etc..) ?
The main reason of this question is simple logic:
- The game we play is team based.
- The team is made out of random people with random experience and rankings (as of now).
- Ranked system rates each player (not a team...) only based on lose/win ratio
So ranking system that suppose to rate your individual skills and experience is rating you based on a win/lose condition where another 4 random people with random capabilities are involved. How come is there any logic in this system? This system we have now should be counting ranks only on premade teams very simple example - any team based games in real world such as soccer, basketball where a teams score works just the same as our ranking score. The way things are now means that my individual rank can be determined by another 4 players that I have no relation to so how is this ranking system valid to any of us?
This leads to the conclusion that the ranking system we have now means exactly nothing. The only thing it can show us if the particular player usually plays the game with a premade team or is he playing alone - the higher the rank the more often he is playing with his friends this is true in most of the cases (I would say 90proc.) And this is only true if the premade team is playing against random player team. Because having a team vs random guys is 90proc. win scenario for a team. That is the only way people go up in this ranking system we have now.
Playing with a random people its pure 50/50 win/lose scenario and people who play alone, I believe it is majority, are unable to move further and are stuck in so called "ELO hell"...
The ranking system we have at the moment is the major cause of the "salty" community, huge amount of disrespect among players and overall bad experience that many of us have in each game we play. The main cause of this is simple - there are less experienced players in the same team as you are. This cause every bad thing we have with the game at the moment - the team balance is ruined, therefore feeding occurs, others refuse to help, they start bad talking/insulting, reporting at the end of the game all in all having negative experience communicating with others... On the other hand an experienced player playing with 4 newbs is forced to waste his time having bad experience without any way of winning a game and being forced to play the game until the end if majority of a players refuse to surrender. Going AFk or leaving the game will result in consequence...
So basically what I am saying that the system we have today does is less and less based on personal skill and is completely disadvantageous for players who play the LoL alone due to lack of time to form a team or lack of friends wanting to play the game, people play alone when they have free time to do so.. And it is very sad that when we finally find some free time we play the game and we end up having bad experience not only on game side but also on communication in the game.
How to change things? Well what about the grades that we get after the each game - if you did well you can get S+ if you did nothing the lowest score is D- probably. So where do these ranks add up? The represent your personal level of skill or more like how well you did in that match, but it is all a personal rating. Doesnt matter if your team won or lost, this rating system is not influenced by the fact that your team lost the game. The grade is pure personal and is influenced by others by a very little amount. Why dont we have an average game grade? And a ranking system based on it, rather than a win/lose score, where a team is formed from 5 people so that means you are only 20% of a team. From a single player perspective the majority decides if you go up the rankings or down, how is this fair? Why cant RIOT build a ranking system based on average game rating? This would bring a lot of more confidence and motivation for players to actually be sportsmanlike, because at the moment this is just a laugh... This would make a ranked games more ranked based, rather than matching different people from different leagues with different experience, because now it is really strange that we are put in some sort of ranks and yet we play the game with people from higher or lower ranks than we are in - how is this motivating people to be sportsmanlike? This is the same as giving a prize trophy to the winner and loser at the same time..
And what about our experience with a different champion? We get the exp numbers but they do not mean anything at the moment. The experience numbers should mean that the person is more skilled with particular champion. But for some reason this very important figure is not shown anywhere and there is no rankings based on it. While these numbers mean basically everything about how good a player there is no statistics regarding this..
So all in all this brings a question ,whats is this ranking system we are trying to participate in while the math behind it does not work or clearly does not show the real individual grow and does not represent the real skill of a player.
A team ranking system is used to rate individual player what the hell is this?
