This new loot system will kill this game's F2P player base.

Players feel cheated. Riot has reduced how fast players can earn champions without paying money. you guys are killing the life blood of your game with this update. No more IP every game AND we cant reroll champ shards from loot. It takes atleast 10 shards on average now to get a champion, which is a ton of level ups. Also, if you don't randomly get dropped a champion (less than 1% chance) you really want to get or are saving for, then there is absolutely 0 benifits of this system. If you are reducing F2P incentives on an F2P based game, good fucking luck increasing your player base. The game is already hard enough for new people to get into, and now your company has the gall to make that wall even bigger. You guys have been slowly killing yourselves since day 1 with your greedy ass corporate mindset.

You need a large player base so that small percentage will give you tons of money. if you reduce the amount of people willing to play your game from entry barriers, then the less money you will get because you have a smaller pool of people willing to spend money on your game. Then, since there is no one else willing to join, other people will be even less incentivised to spend more money on your game, because there are less and less people playing. Have fun killing your own company with greedy changes like this.

i had 3 rune pages that i could play ranked with since i was able to buy t3 runes. that small investment of 3 champions does not out weigh the investment of time required to now get champions. you have to spend more time to get more progress now, UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPEND MONEY

The only people this system benefits are the long time players with almost every champion unlocked besides expensive ones and new ones, the lucky who get almost every champion that they want to acquire as a shard, and the people who don't give a fuck about money and just throw it around. The last of those people are not going to be staying around for a long time anyways, so they should not be your end game when you are developing new foundations for your game.

if you have the time, re-read my reply. i edited it before i saw that you responded.

Also to expand more, most players only played a set number of roles, and most generic rune pages were enough for you to be a competitive player across every role in old solo queue. Now with dynamic queue, there is no need for as many rune pages -- you are playing 2 roles most of the time -- and a lot of different rune pages are similar across multiple roles, which require less rune pages. You use to be able to run 3-4 pages and be able to play every role, but maybe not every champion. Now you can play every champion, but have less access to how many you can play.

by all means, i am not trying to say they should make the game any easier to advance in, but to make it so it is harder to advance as a whole is preposterous. Especially when that advancement is out of game micro-transactions. Removing runes saved 6.3k x 4 aka 4 high end champions + 210 x 3 different runes x 4 pages which was about 2.5k ip. most runes were interchangeable and some seal, glyph, or marks costed up to ~800 ip each. this would make most regular full rune sets cost ~6-10 high end champions. that is less than 10% of the playable champions given up, plus you are still given an option to focus specific champions/roles. Now you are limited to drops, random mystery champions, and the slow ass grind of getting new champion shards to dust, luckily upgrade, and/or getting blue shards from leveling up.

Also, there was a large percentage of runes rarely used or only used for specific champions. You could still play those champions fine with other runes, but you could get a small percentage more out of them with specific runes. These things only affect a small percentage of the player base, the high level players. The other 90%+ (not sure on the metrics here) of the player base just uses it as an excuse because it is what the elite players do. The minuscule differences these optimized rune pages offer are not enough to break players out of ELO hell, where as playing a champion you liked and having a positive mindset is really all that matters to climb.

How much of this can be blamed on Tencent, I wonder.

tencent?

the Chinese overlords of riot.

Pretty sure Rito said Tencent doesn't influence their decisions. Which makes sense, because the reason of Tencent buying Rito was because they couldn't get into the western market with their eastern products, so they made the western designers make games for them.

they own their business, of course they have a say in what is happening. All investers of a company have a say, it is just a matter of how big of a percentage that their say matters. And with how big Tencent is compared to riot, id say their bottom line opinion matters more. Riot lost their soul when they sold out to Tencent, and this is part of the result. Id also say all the TDA/dota-allstar drama and how big pendragon's head got really was the downfall of riot, because he created a cannibalistic culture that has destroyed itself.

I've been away from the game for quite a while, so I can't speak with much certainty; but I do remember when Tencent acquired Riot there was a minor uproar in worrying about League becoming P2W, Tencent milking it to death, etc.

The new system just rings a few bells, is all.

It sucks because I thought they said this system would be equal to if not better than the old system..

Gazerix2 votes

equal or better for their pocket books. they did not specify how it would be equal or better to the old system.

Thats the intention here lol

If the intention is to kill their playerbase, so less people will want to play, then i guess i can't argue with what they are doing. I will just go play CS:GO, Rocket League, Dota 2, or Vainglory. In turn with killing off their F2P players, they are increasing queue times and reducing the equality of matches because there are less people to play around the same skill level. This would make people willing to spend money on the game _TO INCREASE HOW FAST THEY GAIN STUFF _ less likely to spend money because they aren't getting into games fast enough. Also the player skill gap would become too big to even think the game is remotely fair for newer players, thus warding off future investors.

Wrong. By all reasonable measures, players will be unlocking champions for free faster.
