What's considered good elo?

Over the past 2 months or so I've started playing ranked exclusively, and I'm currently sitting at Gold 5, 78lp with 1,515 mmr. I'm not stuck or anything either, I'm still climbing, I just got here a few days ago and I started B1 this season. Currently I'm the highest I've ever been since I started playing league during mid season 4, I play many junglers and yi is easily my most played and favorite. Op.gg says that 1,515 is the top 22% of players but one of my plat friends was telling me gold is a bad elo and it's nothing to really be proud of. Whats the general consensus on this?

Gold-Master=same reward. Challengers get jacket.

Statistically most players are silver and bronze. So as soon as you get in gold its basically good elo. At gold you are above average. You get skin as reward and its pretty much neutral.

Depends on if you're interested in being relatively good or absolutely good. The majority of players are rather bad in absolute terms, so being 'good' in some absolute sense might put you in the top 1% or even .1% of players. On the other hand, being better than the majority is still good relatively speaking, so even being gold means you're well above average and so could be considered relatively good.

Generally anyone you ask that is gold+ and not in diamond 5 will probably consider themselves bad or just 'ok', and have a defintion of good that means the stuff below them is not good.

edit: Also, op.gg's estimation of your MMR is almost certainly not your true MMR, so I'd be wary of saying that your MMR is anything. Third party sites don't have access to players true mmr so it just guesses. Other third party sites may have their own guesses that are probably different numbers, so don't put too much stock in any one source.

Depends who you ask to be honest.. If you ask someone in challenger they'll say every1 below masters is trash.. and if you ask a bronze player they'll say gold is the glory hole, but we all know thats not true lol. In my personal opinion.. in the 3 seasons ive been in my current rank.. Plat 3/2 MMR is where games start to feel higher quality.. They arn't professional level good... but a lot of the things i found frustrating are not as prevalent here..

Thanks guys I guess I was just a bit disheartened to hear him say that after it's something I've been working towards.

Statistically, gold is good elo. But I guess as a matter of opinion it depends on who you ask.

I'll say it's fair to say that whatever rank you get to, if you had a goal to get there, you'll never be fully content in reaching it. I'm Gold 4 ~1650 MMR, and i've come to realize that gold and below is bad, and i often get matched with high plat and low diamond somehow in both ranked and normals, and i don't really see much of a difference. I guess if you want garunteed elo, play soraka or janna, duo with a draven main, and i feel like you'd get plat easy.Draven Draven Draven Draven Draven

Depends on who you ask. Seems like the lowest ranked players on boards will tell you that everyone below Diamond 2 is trash.
