Pyke is busted, but no one plays him because it's boring

Pyke

It's pretty much an open secret that this thing, this "Pyke", is blatantly OP. Then why isn't he played more often? Because it's boring. It's boring precisely because this shit's OP. Laning phase: hook, stun, rinse and repeat. Post-6: wait for the execute indicator, then press R a few times... which even resets. And whenever you fuck up, just run away and come back as if nothing happened. Besides, support mains don't find him appealing because he's an assassin (albeit with more CC than any other assassin). And assassin mains would rather play mid anyway. And you still need a decent ADC on your team to win.

So why is he OP?

The biggest culprit is the healing on his passive. Sure, you say that he can't get extra HP. But that is irrelevant. Does, say, Zed ever build HP? And is Zed able to convert extra HP into AD? Yeah, no. If you do the math, Pyke's HP to AD conversion is (almost) 100% gold efficient. What this actually does is make his abilities (and his autos) scale off of bonus HP and give him an extra pool of items that no one else has access to. And Pyke is the champion which needs extra HP the least, because of both stealth and that grey health bullshit.

The biggest threat when you're playing Pyke is letting all this OP get to your head, and throwing the game. I think nerfing him would make it a bit more challenging and fun, and maybe more people would play him. Start with that ridiculous passive. Maybe give him some kind of delay before the passive activates, like the 5-second delay on mobi boots.

Bull fucking shit. That is complete nonsense. We have never had a nerf lead to a higher playrate. It does not happen.

When do we stop calling sub 50% win rate champions op?

It honestly shows that there's no point in balancing the game because you guys don't know what it is.

Its funny i used to think the same thing, then I actually played him like 10 games straight... he’s actually not easy to play. Every thing he does has a delay, and is a skill shot. I think that alone balances the champ. Hes OP if you are way more skilled than your opponents, but if they are equal or better skill you wont be landing all your hooks/stuns, they’ll know how to find you in stealth, and they’ll build hourglass for your ult. Fair champ, try playing him

my proposed changes would've been objectively best---for pyke players, and for overall balance

this was 6 months ago, before whatever nerfs he got hit him, while he was at a 68% ban rate:

remove self gold double nerf heal (significantly) increase mana costs revert q/e aoe nerf

increase cooldowns? revert 8.22 lethality scaling changes? (keep base damage nerfs)

Depends on what you call OP.

For you its "squishy" assassin(high base stats, cant get hp from items tho), with good catching power, bad engage and godlike cleanup ability.

For me its champ that can lock you down for 3 secs while being unkillable(Leo/Naut), the "One miss step = death" golem and "Let me heal/shield you while doing tons of dmg from far away" gurl.

He is strong, he has his weaknesses and strong sides, overall entertaining champ to play(unless you are adc and its 30th filled Pyke as your supp...). Statwise he doesnt seem to be really out of hand compared to Bard(sounds like Im trolling until youll get oneshotted by him).

A shitty argument. People play Yuumi, Garen and other champions. Not to mention there is a group of players who literally get money if they win, so they are supposed to play whatever lets them win, no matter if its boring or not. He has clear weak points, his ult is predictable and he is shit at actually supporting an adc. The only op thing about him is a gold generation ult, but it's also what makes his ult predictable and easy to bait with flash/heal/stasis/dash

Still cancer in the solo lane vs mages.

No one plays? I see him quite often and he is my second most played champion. If he was a boring champion I wouldn't have over 200k mastery points on him alone. It's that every hook champion laning phase, without the ultimate of course? Maybe to you It's boring but to others Isn't?

It beat me so it's op.

hes a tumor but only when played decently . like any hook hero, useless if u cant hook. . his peel is not as good and reliable as them either. the hook windup is a double edged sword. id rather just play any other hook hero than him for the hook alone . hook.
