Changing the respawn timers to discourage bad play

Here's an idea. It's true that you can't fix stupid, but you can make stupid stare at a gray screen for more of the time.

Currently here is the formula for respawn timers, it is linear piece-wise and only based on champion level and game time. My idea is to make respawn timers longer in the early game, or base the respawn timer on stats such as team death counts. This would make it more punishing for idiots to die early game, but it would not discourage people from making calculated risks when they see an opportunity, because you can also punish the enemy for being idiots.

Just spitballing some ideas here. You could base it on the player with the most deaths on your team. (However, this could make griefers even more painful.) Or base it on repeated recent deaths. (Harder for an individual who is behind to come back.) Taking objectives decreases your death timers. (Other unforeseen consequences...) Since this is only theory at the moment I don't know what could happen. And perhaps there's more incentive to 5 man invade, or something else. Your thoughts.

I don't think that longer respawn timers early would have the effect that you have in mind. Yes dying is more punishing, but longer respawn timers also make killing an enemy a lot more rewarding than it is right now. The enemy misses out on more xp/gold and gets behind even further.

People would probably not take calculated risks. I think everyone would play hyperagressive in early game to try to get kills early and snowball from that onwards. Playing proactivly has always been better than playing reactivly And especially some cheese-strategies would be a lot more rewarding. Shaco invading the enemy jungle and stacking his boxes in a bush waiting for his jungle opponent. First blood for shaco, and he has more time to take away camps from the enemy jungler getting him ahead even further.

FUCK NO. HELL NO...JUST NO NO NO NO NO.

I'm too lazy to look you up so I don't know how long you have been playing but there was a brief time in season 6 or 7, can't remember exactly, where death timers were really fuckin long. It lasted quite a few patches and created the most miserable experience I've ever known to this day. You lose a team fight at 20 minutes, you lose an inhibitor even if you had all your towers. And if you think those long death timers made people play smarter, think again.

No. This would just make the meta less favourable for champions that aren't extremely strong. For example, Trundle, is extremely off meta (Toplane mind you) and he isn't picked because he has very little 1v1 potential and gets easily kited. Now, what would he do, if he played vs a Gnar who straight up wins the lane, if whenever he died (and trust me, it would be a lot) instead of a 15 secs respawn timer, it became a 25? This would straight up enforce the meta play and make the game way less fun for anyone who is not willing to be a meta slave
