Downside to the new champ select--not being able to browse champions

With the new champ select, we can no longer scroll through our champions to react to our opponents picks (or ban/pick of our pre-select character). I'm a low MMR player and I don't have the game knowledge to retain all the appropriate characters prior to my pick turn... and then have 30s to scroll through looking for an appropriate replacement.

Personally, I would like the ability to ignore the glam of the champ select until I've locked in my pick so I can be better prepared for my team.
