climbing from bronze, what am I doing different?

So a month ago I started taking advice to heart. actually trying the things I was being told and I started my slow climb from B5 to S4 and still climbing at a relative consistent pace. The main things I've worked on since then have been last hitting minions, a more conscious approach to item purchases, not being as timid in team fights. But then I look back at my game play when I was stuck in B5 and I honestly can't remember being any worse than I am now. i guess I don't fully understand what I'm doing so drastically different now than when I was in B5 and it kind of frustrates me because well I was stuck in B5 for flipping ever. And I want to continue to climb but It makes me wonder what else I'm missing

Maybe you weren't actually "worse", as in "you played mechanically just as good". But if you paid less attention to CS'ing, for instance, you would have less items at a given point in time. If you played just as well before but had less items, you lost. Now with more CS and more/better items, even without "playing better", you win the same fights, and this kind of little things add up and you win more games on average.

Personally, I just went one-trick Veigar to get into Silver, once I reached silver I started playing other champs (I still play Veigar when Yasuo's around tho)

Decision making is the most important part. Recognizing when you're being baited, and don't chase. Positioning and objective control. Doesn't matter what role you play, you can ping to take objectives. Recognizing when you're going to be dove, IE staying under turret while 3 people are attacking tower. These things keep you alive longer, and help your team a lot.

You just listed what changed. If you picked up your csing, waste less money by buying items efficiently and are bolder and more confident in your decision making, then that's all you needed to do to improve. And that's simply all you need to keep climbing up to gold. Probably working on your mechanics from there is a good choice.

Congrats on your climb. I'm starting my own climb out of bronze toward gold one day. Looking at your rank play it looks like you focus on Nasus as your main. Before you started your climb did you play a lot of different champs?

That was one of the things I did. I used to play all different champs in different roles. When I made the decision to focus on Brand support I started to see my wins go up. Maybe you had the same experience. I got the advice from a plat player, told me to pick one champ and play them over and over. Having one main champ you know inside and out, itemizing and damage thresholds, allows you to control your game play a lot more.

Keep up the good work, I hope to see you when I hit silver.

Funny how people have told me one trick players never actually do well, yet here we have plats saying it's a good idea. XD

(I was one trick Veigar until S5)
