@Sightstone - Problem With Support

Hey guys! Just want to see what everyone thinks about the sightstones item 2049 item 2045 right now.

As it stands for every support, you're already stuck buying your gold income item - which is fine, you need that passive gold, right? However, after that, at some point you're going to need to buy your sightstone, and for most champs (not all, but most supports), boots of mobility.

So now, 15 minutes in the game, your build looks something like this: item 3401 /item 3069/item 3092 + item 2049 + item 3117 (Again sometimes the boots are different but not too often). Which is really cool and all, but you're left with 3 slots left to build the rest of your items, and not a whole lot of diversity left. Wouldn't it be really cool if there was a way to not only maximize on the fact that you only had 3 spaces left to build the rest of your items, but also build a little bit more personality to your build than just the "standard start" for supports?

What I'm recommending is a type of upgrade to the sightstone. But not to the sightstone we currently know now.

As an adc, or anyone else in your pre-game lobby, you know you want your support to take exhaust summoner 3 . It is basically the only viable support spell in the current meta, just like a jungler is forced to take smite summoner 11 . Now, like the idea of smite and the hunter's machete, imagine a sightstone with four upgrades to personalize the way you play support.

The most common roles of supports are (and most supports are in some way a mixture):

  1. Tanks (braum, leona, etc..)
  2. Poke (aa's, spells, etc..)
  3. CC (pulls, stuns, etc..)
  4. Utility (heals, buffs, etc..)

Now, here's where it gets interesting. Right now a sightstone is 800 gold, gives 150 hp and 3 ward charges. Kind've an expensive item to build without much originality to be sitting in your build. My suggestion, with a new exhaust-only capability to buy, would be a sightstone which costs 575 gold, holds 4 charges, and offers no health. This would ensure you couldn't buy it off the start, and rather than building in from a ruby crystal, it could build from just an average stealth ward + 500 gold (say if you had to back early but had an extra ward on you, you could just upgrade it instead of selling it, just a thought). After that, it could be built into one of four items. These items could really be a range of anything, but the ones I've thought up wold go something like this:

  1. Tank Sightstone (New Sightstone + giant's belt + 400 gold) -Grants 5 charges to sightstone + 600 health.
  2. AP Sightstone (New Sightstone + Aether Wisp + 550 gold) -Grants 5 charges, 60 AP & +5% movement speed.
  3. Armor Sightstone (New Sightstone + chain vest + 650 gold) -Grants 5 charges, +40 armor & +15 armor to nearby allies
  4. Magic Resistance Sightstone (New Sightstone + Negatron Cloak + 550 gold) -Grants 5 charges, +45 magic resistance & +15 magic resistance to nearby allies

Obviously the gold costs, stats, builds, etc.. are all just my thoughts and I'd love to hear any suggestions or feedback.

Now, when dealing with sightstones, we obviously think of champions who can jump to trinkets. Think Lee Sin LeeSin , which I've thought of and covered with this idea in a few ways. For starters, the fact that you'd need exhaust for these new sightstones and upgrades. Secondly, there is no AD item, since most supports don't focus on AD anyway. As for Katarina Katarina, there would definitely be better items for her than a measly 60 AP item, and also with the new upgraded trinket I can't see her going to lane with exhaust just to be able to buy a sightstone with a little bit of AP. Of course, there are other champions out there who might want to lane with exhaust, but if they want to buy a sightstone, why not?! Also could keep old sightstone in game for champs like Lee Sin who like a sightstone without wanting exhaust.

Anyway, those are my thoughts and suggestions, and I know it's not perfect, but I've brought it up with the community to be discussed. Maybe you guys have a better idea than making them smite-only items, but that's the best solution I had. Maybe you had better upgrade ideas? Maybe you hate the idea all together?

Let me know and discuss it here. Thanks, NoobStew

Edit: Wanted to add a tl;dr:

-Supports lack item space and diversity. -Add new exhaust-only sightstone. -Reduce cost of initial sightstone, provides only wards, no health. -Have option to build sightstone into upgrades based on your support/playstyle.

Very interesting...

The only thing I would say is maybe find a way around linking it with Exhaust...I say that because I rarely take summoner 3exhaust into battle when I supp, unless my ADC asks me to. If I don't have a heal for my ADC, it's summoner 7heal. If I'm SorakaSoraka, it's usually summoner 13Clarity for the long long long in-lane sustain.

But I'm sure Rito could come up with some way for the item to only be beneficial for the supp, such as they've done with item 3092 item 3069 item 3401

Actually maybe if they finished their support item they could purchase it instead? That could be a better work-around, but would also mean you need to finish your support item first, so it does limit you in a sense. I still think it's a better idea than exhaust.

What about making an item that builds from sightstone that is only accessible if the one building it has one of the three support items, and has different stats and effects based on which one?
