Why is damaged allowed to outscale armor/tankiness so SO HARD?

League of Legends Match History

Honestly now, I would like everyone to take a look at the game included as an example. Riot, what is the solution to a YI or a JAX (auto attack champions...) running guinsoos and how do you stop it? Like honestly, I was the Malphite running top lane against Jax. I started cloth and pots and have decent runes/masteries tending towards a tankier top with a little AP on malph. I absolutely couldnt do JACK vs him. He outfarmed me, pushed me under tower, and by the time he had guinsoos, I was pushed out of lane and tower was gone. Meanwhile, I do my best, farm up, finish my Sunfire cape and grab a thornmail....

Because Riot has told us, "They are auto attack champs, stack armor and build thornmail..." Right? Wrong. Honestly, it did NOTHING to these champs (Jax and Yi...) Even though they were both maxing attack speed and damage. I could understand how they could smash through the amu (he was a paper health monster, nothing more...) but a simple google search for JAX COUNTERS turns up Malphite as his Number one counter (in most cases...not all...)

So I must ask you Riot, why are tanks so WEAK in this new season? How am I supposed to deal with these auto attack monsters (Xin, yi, jax ect ect.) that I see nearly every game in low elo. I know alot of people will say "Should have banned Jax or Yi ect ect." but in a game with 100 champs, you can only ban 3 per side...And with the Tahms, the mundos, the xins, the nasuses, ect ect ect. that people hate in my elo, its rough banning those champs...

So Riot...A red...ANYONE....

Are tanks INTENTIONALLY weak? Am I doing something wrong? I don't get it man but it's frusterating as hell to do everything you ASSUME should counter champs who are just auto attack bosses. Build armor? Check. Tanky champ who thrives off building armor? Check. Build a little MR because EVERYONE knows how ridiculous Guinsoos is right now (specifically in my elo?) Check.

Like...Help me?

Jax's output is actually 50% magic damage. You were itemizing only for his physical damage and ignoring the massive damage he gets from W, ult passive and guinsoo.

What you should've done is go Sunfire->Abyssal.

Also, never get in extended trades with Jax. What you are supposed to do is farm, then as Jax comes in to farm, E him, W empowered auto him for a grasp of the undying proc, then back off. If he starts spinning, Q a minion (he won't be in range) and run away. If he jumps at you directly, Q him and back off.

You need Randuin's or Frozen Heart, not just Thornmail.

Also, would like to point out neither Jax nor Yi had ANY penetration items...Yet they consistently melted my armor like Nothing...Riot please respond. Any RED.

'I absolutely couldn't do JAX vs him.' there fixed it for you

Yeah you're suppose to build Omen's against attack speed, but still it doesn't seem to be enough in Season 6. Full tanks feel like they lack too much this season. It almost feels better just to have a juggernaut on your team this season.

Personally if you love tanks, I'd suggest Garen. He's ridiculous lately and is one of the few fairly strong tanks right now.

Damage is supposed to be king late. Tankiness is supposed to be an early/mid game strength.

I dunno. That's just what riot wants.

My point was early on in lane I couldnt do anything vs him although i supposedly counter him? Makes no sense. Even starting cloth + pots vs him.

Yi is just a dps monster after a while and is going to shred through just about anything if left to do so. This may sound counter-intuitive, but being super tanky just makes it easier for them to kill you over all. Sure it takes longer, but you end up hitting like a wet noodle so there's no real threat.

Whereas if you have a bit of damage behind you, sure they're going to hurt like hell, but they are going to get hurt more as well.

I've had more success with going a bruiser-y build than being just a slab of armor, mr, and health when it comes to Jax or Yi.

Waaaaaay back in Season 3, Meddler (On the old forums) said something along the lines of Damage will Always outscale tankiness, because games with everyone stacking HP/Ar/Mr are boring and stale.

Essentially: Two wet noodles slapping one another, does not an amusing game make.

The problem with this, is how many champions do %-based Hp-Scaling Damage, or are designed to shred even the tankiest of tanks, or punish people who don't build the perfectly precise item (Which is hard, given that if you're stacking tank stats, you're either a super-tank champ who does no damage anyways, or you're behind and unable to farm without dying)

Champions like the following are all problems who need fixing.

Vayne: The Classic, the eternal, the Shredder Du Jour, who in Bork's Glorydays, could shred an entire team 1v5 and laugh off their damage with a short dash, Stealth, three-hit stacking %Maximum Health True damage. Truly a nuisance to tanks who are rewarded for stacking HP/Armor.

TahmKench: The only tank you'll see on this list, and it's a two-fold reason. 1: He's the only tank who gets Meaningful damage for building more health and getting harder to kill, with his ultimate's passive (20 Magic damage + 2/4/6% Bonus HP) which only Synchronizes with his E's Grey health, making it even harder to kill him. Oh, lest I forget, Devour, his W, does % Max HP Damage too (Up to 32%, without any AP, to be precise!)

Gnar: Maxed out, W - Hyper, does 50 Magic Damage, 14% Max HP and 100% of his AP as damage. Does he build AP? Nope. But that doesn't mean he COULDN'T

Jhin: The Newest Strutter on the league, he two-steps onto the Fields of Justice with A Guaranteed Crit that also does Execute damage in the form of up to 25% Missing HP damage with just his passive, and his ultimate does 2% more for every 1% Missing HP. That adds up QUICK.

I could keep going, but holy hell, this list's getting long, and let's be honest, the stats are kinda ridiculous. Tanks are next to worthless between Itemization (The Last Whisper Items, Duskblade, etc) and an Obvious, inherent Bias against them in the Champions that have been released.
