"You have been inactive and have disconnected" - practice tool

Tormentula··64 votes·2,478 views

Whats next, I'm gunna get reported for intentionally feeding in practice tool? Why can't I just leave my practice tool for 20 minutes for subway and then come back to where I left off while there's a 5k minion wave at my tower?

imo this should be disabled for non pvp/pvb modes and one man customs.

EDIT: or at least the time window extended instead of warning you in the same time length as pvp.

This is there so these people don't cause unnecessary server load from just leaving practice tools running 24/7

I can understand that, but the chances of server overload (I dont remember one since jhin's release) wouldn't seem high enough with this update to harm too much, I wouldn't believe so anyway unless 1000+ people at one time actually left their practice tool on 24/7, which sounds like a worst case scenario, lucky if once a year issue. Idk how riot's servers are maintained so I could be missing an important variable.

I think they should at least extend the afk warning window. Maybe maximum game length a practice tool game can be is 2-3 hours and then the game D/Cs or something like that. Or the AFK warning pops up every 30-60 minutes of no movement.

The benefit of termination of AFK practice tool game may be low, but the cost is even lower. It takes like 1 minute to get back into practice tool. And there's probably only like 1 person out of 10,000 that wants to remain in practice tool afk.

Every game is essentially a whole server, regardless of how many players are in it. This is why back in the day in times of severe server congestion they would restrict customs to a minimum party size.

It would actually open up avenues for people who want to cause riot servers to crash.

Imagine if there was no time out for practice tool, and u just got perma'd. You hate riot because, like many who come to the boards you "didn't do anything wrong" (this is purely theoretical, don't take any of this personally). You, or someone you hire could make hundreds of thousands of accounts using automated programs (they basically sort through emails and names until they fine one's not yet used) and, essentially DDOS Riot by having EVERY SINGLE ONE of those accounts logged into a separate practice tool instance.

Riot would have to shut down the servers, disable practice tool and try and figure out which accounts are "fake" and which are not.

Junkο2 votes

Implying they can't already do that by just adding a script that inputs a command every few minutes...

TotalJerk1 votes

The script would have to run on every single machine and be sophisticated enough to not be caught by Riot's detection system. That requires exponentially more effort and resources than simple having a machine boot up practice tools.

Junkο2 votes

You do realize it doesn't matter if the script gets detected right? The accounts will be banned after anyway, and the detection doesn't do anything else, it doesn't stop the script from running.

And yeah obviously you are going to get the script on every system, which isn't a big deal because DDOS attacks are usually automated anyway(so you would just add 1 more thing to the automation). Like you seriously don't believe people manually tell thousands of machines to constantly send packet after packet to the server to crash it right?

I think riot would pick up on that pretty easily. If they can catch on to botted accounts, scripts, and third party content through a filter they can probably catch on to whatever program is running all these accounts in practice tool. Granted these are still issues riot is having trouble with, the fear of a "ddos overload" would require a significant mass which riot can keep down long before it succeeds in its goal, unless botted accounts which are more individual problems.

They would need to own google to ddos riot undetected.

.... why cant we just run practice tool "offline"

p.s. did not know that practice tool was online mode untill today XD

TotalJerk1 votes

Because a large majority of the game's code is run server side. The game cannot function unless connected to the server.

Need Gold 4 Tent5 votes

maybe riot will eventually come up with an offline version of the practice tool. after all, these were already made for single player anyway.

Tormentula1 votes

There would have to be a way past the login first. The client doesn't even launch offline so that would be issue 1.

UnboundHades1 votes

just create an offline login on the side that would allow you to save all of your data from your account on to it so u can use practice tool

Leetri1 votes

They will never do that because it makes it much much easier to test and develop hacks and scripts undetected.

Junkο1 votes

No it doesn't. If the practice tools runs locally while the actual game runs on their servers, you can't test jack shit because local most likely won't check if you are breaking the rules of the game every half second like the server does. Some exploits even blatantly abuse the information you send to the server, something you can't do locally.

Trias0003 votes

It should be disabled everywhere, as it serves no purpose. The game can still detect and punish afk players without disconnecting them.

dunder kill2 votes

So you arent wasting Riot's resources while not actually using them? Riot is hosting an entire game for a single person as opposed to 10. People afking in a custom or practice tool is literally wasting their resources for absolutely nothing.

Have a bit of consideration. Sheesh.

DanniiDarkness1 votes

Even if it wasn't removed entirely, just extend it to 3-4 times the current length?

Or add a pause button. Then people could manually afk, preserving the game state allowing Riot to free up the resources

I agree

Subway > League of Legends

BALDG1VEN BOOMER1 votes

Can't you also be punished in bot games too?

Tormentula1 votes

Yea but I guess the fair excuse is that you have live teammates so even if bots are stupid easy to 4v5 they don't want players feeling like they can just go troll bots and ruin the game for others with less experience (tilting them or them being new and struggling).

BALDG1VEN BOOMER1 votes

Don't think anyone in their right mind would go to a bot game to just straight up afk

Keylight XD1 votes

wow you must really suck at sandbox mode, captain.

toorazamaki1 votes

You aren't gonna get in trouble in practice mode bro chill
