Is Blitzcrank's sweet lil q broken?

All I have to say is in this video. His hook is busted and I don't wanna hear people saying "You just need to learn how hitboxes work" because that is a lame excuse to not fix something that is obviously busted.

Looking at the video, there really isn't a solution that will make you happy.

The hook hit Sona's hitbox. To look graphically correct, the hook needs to be directly on the Sona model. So once the hook has hit the hitbox, it snaps to the center of the model during the pull. The hook hitbox could be as narrow as a needle and you would still get instances of this snapping.

If this were any other skill shot, it would have also have registered a hit.

The only way to "fix" such a problem would be making the character hitboxes tighter around the model. But this would be a buff for any character they do this for and the only result would be less of a "snap".

I've seen videos where the opposite thing happens too. There are times when he clearly hits someone, but for some reason it still misses. I agree this skillshot is very buggy and needs to be looked at.

It's not a blitz bug, its a bug with the auto pathing system, and how the game client interprets that data. You remember that feeding top laner? It's very possible that he was actually winning lane early, but flashed into a minion wave and got glitched inside thier hit boxes, unable to move. These kind of bugs happen often enough. Next time you're waiting to leash red or blue for jungler, try to walk between your support and the wall, and see what kind of auto pathing glitches occur.

I think the fix is definitely to fix hitboxes for all the champs and also the projectiles (in this case, hook) but in some cases things like jinx ult or ashe ult clearly misses a target yet still hits the hit box and explodes/stuns. And while you would still see some instances of this with a fixed hitbox on a player and a projectile you would see less of it which I think is the issue. When you play against blitz you pretty much get this kind of oddball hook at some point to someone every single game.

I disagree with you that fixing hitboxes is equivalent to buffing a champ. Lets say that we fix the hitbox on the q for blitz, and no champions, he would have/could have still hooked me in this scenario specifically because my hitbox was larger then the minion in line with blitz, it would also allow blitz to hook between minions easier because the hook is not as wide. Lets say you fix the hitbox on the champion AND the hook, now blitz would not have hit me in this specific instance because the hook was not even near the champion. Fixing hitboxes for all the champions and projectiles is in my opinion the only fix for this. Even with fixed hitboxes you would still see some instances of these types of plays because the champion hitbox is going to be larger then a minion hitbox even if the champion was standing directly behind the minion but you would see a lot less of it.

In addition to fixing hitboxes, that may not even be the issue. Maybe the issue is that there is something wrong with pathing and/or prediction and THAT is what needs to be fixed. There are a few things that could be going wrong (or a mixture of them all causing people to hate blitz/naut/thresh for these kinds of weird hooks) and so I don't want to specifically say that fixing hitboxes is the end all solution when the end all solution might be to have to fix a few things.
