The Underwhelming Release of Bard and his different yet simple skills.(EXTRA,EXTRA Long Post...)
Since his release, the champion has met a ton of suggestions for buffs and on top of all bad reviews(mostly met with comments: "Give them time for people to learn him!"). Well 2 weeks had past since then and people continue to say he is not relevant in his current state in solo q and only relevant in LCS teams. He is not a tank, he is not an engager ( saying that I mean: Ok he puts that magical journey ...and everyone quotes Bilbo "I'm going on an adventure" every time they go through it and go collect chimes ...but he does no initial dmg or continuous dmg. He is there to be the worst and most boring job...sit behind everyone else and do nothing while people are attacked and just protect the caries if someone goes for them...maybe he can do a play here and there but most times...nothing).** I will not be making new skills just modification to stats and buffs...no two way portals or ult stuns only enemy team...just making it relevant throughout the game while still leaving him as a support role. I will not make any references to the jungle either...that MAY be another post but no promises.**
Lets start with his W: Caretaker's Shrine
His heals do absolutely nothing late game**(230+45%AP when you wait for them for 10 sec. and 150+20% ap initial heal)**...while you have
(who is a tank and heals himself for 308+42%AP+7 Bonus HP and if heals another player it heals himself too for 220+30%AP+5% bonus health) or
or
or potentially
as healers. Yes ...his heals are OP early on in lane-ing stage but are just used to speed you up while you collect chimes and they have no relevance late game...no one will wait 10 sec for a heal late game.
Potential fixes are as follow(choose whichever you like, those are different buffs and they can do whichever of the listed...not all...if all it will be OP ):
- Make it 5 sec waiting period;
- Make it scale with chimes and ap or ap and hp (second option is hardly likely because he is not a tank). For example: 70 / 110 / 150 / 190 / 230 (+ 45% AP) its his current the moment I write this post; 70 / 110 / 150 / 190 / 230 (+ 30% AP) (1,5*chimes) thats not that much but a useful potential buff because almost no one will build him ap because of the fear of angry team-mates.
- Make it + targets maximum %HP for example 5-8%
- Make it so you get buffs the more chimes you collect ... make the speed scale with it ...with 65 chimes grants bonus atk speed...relevant in team fights...with 100 chimes grants shield equal to some stats (maximum hp...your chimes count) and something op ...with 150 (which in a game you hardly you reach if its not 1 hour long) you remove a stun or slow kinda like
. - Make it so he makes debuffs to champion who step on it.
His Passive: Traveller's Call
I didn't start with it because it's kinda good ...yes there are things to be buffed in it but it's better for other skills to be scaled by it and leave it as is. I have played it enough in normals ...and I don't think I will ever play him ranked...until they do smth unexpected with it. But I will still cover it. I have found that the placement of the chimes is kinda on path ...meaning that they have since their start set locations that Riot has placed and are all on the auto path system. I have only one buff to mention to it ...SPAWN MORE CHIMES EARLY GAME (in reachable places) :D ... I'm saying this because you could hardly see any chimes early game ...and late game the field is filled...most of which are in the enemy jungle and it places you can't reach because you must stay with your team ...**because you are a support **...and if you go you will potentially bait your team into an ambush and be taken one by one...because you are extremely fast and your team can't catch up to you.
Ok now back to his Q: Cosmic Binding
Yes...it's still buggy and it doesn't act like you expect: Binds Champs or minions that are not behind the target ... but that's I think because of hit boxes...and programming for better binding close to walls. When I say hit boxes I mean your q's hit box. after the first target hit it continues to be large and it's better to be slightly decreasing cone behind the target...that should make things easier to hit. There are also enough speak of it's dmg...which was buffed...not it's scaling...and still an increase of 30 dmg late game...is no change a support needs. But I guess I will cover it. sigh
- Make its Cooldown from: 11 / 10 / 9 / 8 / 7 to 7 sec on all lvls.
- Make the slow( which is now 1 / 1.2 / 1.4 / 1.6 / 1.8) more seconds(double it) then the stun(which is the same amount), because come on ...its 60% slow...and we have slows in the game for champions who are not support to be longer and more effective: Nasus...DAYUM THAT SLOW on the **Wither ** 95 % for 5 sec...and that's not the only thing he does with it ...but lets focus on the slow.
- Like I said about the W ...make it so its scaling with chimes...MAKE THE CHIMES USEFUL IN OTHER SKILLS :D.
- ugh...yes make the travel speed and range of the skillshot longer... >_> , with champions like

where their reach is outstanding ... and you hide almost always behind minions ...and when you are caught in them it's almost always a dead if you are a carry...there isn't that fear with that skill...even janna's tornado. Here you say ...aww its Bard ...let me farm while he tries to get a position to stun me ...oh he used a q and stunned me after 10 attempts where he stunned 2 minions which are next to each other ...oh well ...lets continue farming. He is not a support you are afraid of...even
THE BANANA MASTER... you stay away from her skills...because it heals her...or silence you and snares you ...and you feel so useless in that pool of silence.
Now...the E: Magical Journey
While I was playing, there were occurrences where I couldn't click it but after 2 games I got used to it. They fixed the issue with players not able to click it...because they don't know where...some fake difficulty to the skill ...kinda like dark souls...try to use a skill without knowing how it works...and no one is telling you how it works...and you have to figure it out. They also buffed his CD ...which now is lower and you get assists from people travelling in it. I have only two buffs that are needed for it :
- The champions travelling inside...I like that you are still target-able and receive skill shots and autos...or skills like Panth's spear. But I'm not happy that it's always a skill you prioritize last...you must always have all skills prioritized first in some build or another....but here the story is different. Maybe make the meeps stack increase from that skill... 2/3/4/5/6 or start from 1 meep ...anyway ...you will never prioritize this skill first...EVER if you don't get anything but travel speed and cd out of it ...because you don't use it early game...only for collecting meeps stuck behind a wall or smth.
- Make the travel speed of champions be smth that scales with chimes... **from now's 10 / 20 / 30 / 40 / 50% ** to 8/15/25/35/45 + 0.1-2*chimes collected...which may be around roughly 45% + 12-24% from chimes around the 40 min mark ... not big change but a buff that makes your already collection of chimes useful.
THE ULT: Tempered Fate
I like it...it's useful and well utilized in many occasions...I have used it enough to learn to quick cast it and not fail 90% of the time. It's only best utilized in chases and 2 on 2 and a must not in most team fights because you may block some of your team's ults and skills. Perhaps only one change...the chimes...There must be some way except for it's stasis time being affected by them. But from 2.5 sec make it 1/1.25/1.5 +0.015% of the chimes ...on the 40 Min. mark ...(the most likely last team fight) you would have collected around 80 chimes on average...so 1.5 + 1.2sec ...that's normal I think. Maybe it needs different stats but you get the point.
IN CONCLUSION
Most of you will say that this is too long and I agree...but there is a reason you view this post and expect a different
by the end of next patch...
Most of you will say that this will make for
to go search for chimes more....but he already does it. As
you feel useless and you start collecting chimes to go and prove yourself useful.
And other will recommend different buffs which I like to see :) ...because imagination and stuff :D
I keep
the same as before...he is still a Wandering Caretaker but making him useful in this current's game meta of highly tank dependent bot lanes giving him more power to take that nasty hp out of the question from champs such as
and giving him more poke so he stands a chance against pokers like
and giving him the same level as relevance as a healer as
or
...he will still be outdmg by the likes of
and
...because he needs to get close to do smth for his marksman.
I like to see him played more and be on lvl as other supports...because...most of the teams said we have lost or the enemy team has lost with a
in the team because** everyone **counters him late game... and late game he is relevant only ad...and we all don't want to see Bard AD :D
