Spectating Random Games

When I first started playing league back in season 3 we were able to Spectate random plat or diamond games and that is how I use to learn strategies and Gameplay. Also it was nice to watch them right after a patch came out, especially if it was a champion release, to check out all the new content. So my question is what happened to that? Why did Riot take it away?
