Achievements In League of Legends

So I have had this idea for awhile.

The only way of gaining IP is through winning/losing games, why not create another way of gaining IP? I think that Riot should introduce Achievements into the game in order to motivate more people to play different champions, learn new roles, and ultimately find another concept to enjoy the game.

Here's my idea: Each champion carries around 15-30 achievements. Every achievement is obviously going to be harder than others so the ones that are harder are going to be rewarded with higher IP. Now I don't mean that if you achieve the hardest achievement that you'll be rewarded with 500LP, but more on the lines of say 50-200LP. The easier achievements can be rewarded 5-25LP. Riot will keep track of your achievements through your account and eventually you'll also be able to unlock certain avatars based off of the achievements you have completed. Another addition is to add achievements based off of the map you are playing on.

For example:

  • "Achieve 5 Dragons in under 40 minutes" (Reward 150LP) - Summoner's Rift
  • "Stun 3 enemies at the same time with Event Horizon" (Reward 20LP) - Veigar
  • "Achieve a Triple Kill with Requiem" (Reward 125LP) - Karthus
  • "Regenerate more than 5,000 Health in one game with Sadism" (Reward 90LP) - Dr. Mundo
  • "Kill Vilemaw more than 3 times in one 3v3 Game" (Reward 100LP) - Twisted Treeline

This achievement system copies the idea of Team Fortress 2 where each class has different achievements based off of the character's assets. But why not make it more enjoyable with the addition of LP to encourage players to try new things. Oh, and if you say that this can be exploited then perhaps make achievements only obtainable through Normals 5v5 or 3v3 Blind/Draft/Ranked Pick.

It would be pretty cool and to have an achievement displayed would show that you're a real champion main.

  • "Kill Vilemaw more than 3 times in one 3v3 Game"

MasterYi Be 0/0/0 at 20 mins

Now *that's *how you be a Yi main!

Fiora Use a summoner's to get a kill

MissFortune Have over 200 AP

Nasus Teleport to a ward (you know, for teamfights. Only a REAL Nasus main would help in a teamfight instead of farming)

Jinx Destroy a tower and kill a champion within 20 seconds of each other

Teemo Perform human sacrificial rituals.

summoner 11 Teemo unlocks Infernal Teemo hidden skin. Karthus score a pentakill with your ultimate unlocks pentakill skin. Caitlyn kill anyone else other than the intended target with your ultimate. Ashe Jinx Ezreal Draven kill someone with your ultimate as soon as they recalled back to their base. "Denied!"

This is a terrible idea, and I will explain why.

Having achievements in multiplayer games ruins the core game experience. You will no longer share the same goal with your team mates: win.

Winning needs to be the only objective. I want to be playing the same game as my team, and as my opponents. Games are defined by rules and goals. Introducing new goals that all players do not share means that they are literally playing a different game.

Decision making in a game is governed by choosing optimal play (to the best of your ability). Game theory centers around this concept. Introducing achievements would skew this and promote decisions that are not optimal for the team.

I hate the idea that the OP presents, not trying to be mean, but it corrupts the purity of the game, and it absolutely should not be implemented.

I would posit that if you think my fears are unjustified, then you lack experience in multiplayer games that have "achievements".

I understand your viewpoint, but be a little more constructive on calling somebodies idea "terrible". Thank you!
