Achievements In League of Legends

So I have had this idea for awhile.

The only way of gaining IP is through winning/losing games, why not create another way of gaining IP? I think that Riot should introduce Achievements into the game in order to motivate more people to play different champions, learn new roles, and ultimately find another concept to enjoy the game.

Here's my idea: Each champion carries around 15-30 achievements. Every achievement is obviously going to be harder than others so the ones that are harder are going to be rewarded with higher IP. Now I don't mean that if you achieve the hardest achievement that you'll be rewarded with 500LP, but more on the lines of say 50-200LP. The easier achievements can be rewarded 5-25LP. Riot will keep track of your achievements through your account and eventually you'll also be able to unlock certain avatars based off of the achievements you have completed. Another addition is to add achievements based off of the map you are playing on.

For example:

  • "Achieve 5 Dragons in under 40 minutes" (Reward 150LP) - Summoner's Rift
  • "Stun 3 enemies at the same time with Event Horizon" (Reward 20LP) - Veigar
  • "Achieve a Triple Kill with Requiem" (Reward 125LP) - Karthus
  • "Regenerate more than 5,000 Health in one game with Sadism" (Reward 90LP) - Dr. Mundo
  • "Kill Vilemaw more than 3 times in one 3v3 Game" (Reward 100LP) - Twisted Treeline

This achievement system copies the idea of Team Fortress 2 where each class has different achievements based off of the character's assets. But why not make it more enjoyable with the addition of LP to encourage players to try new things. Oh, and if you say that this can be exploited then perhaps make achievements only obtainable through Normals 5v5 or 3v3 Blind/Draft/Ranked Pick.

Probably not LP rewards, but maybe bonus IP? Or even a small amount of RP for the dificult ones?

But I know a ton that would be cool to see.

Shen Sucesfully save an ally below 50 hp with your ult. By this I mean they must escape whatever fight they are in. And all enemies are either forced away, or dead.

The problem with achievements is that they promote gameplay that is not necessarily conducive to actually winning the game.

There's a reason why, for example, WoW's achievements are so varied in every aspecto f the game EXCEPT Arenas. Arenas the achievements are all 'achieve this ranking' or 'win x games'. When you deal with a competitive team environment you don't WANT people doing things that might be the cause of defeat simply 'because I wanted the bonus IP from the achievement'.

Imagine if you died during a teamfight and Shen didn't ult in, and that teamfight went on to lose you the game and the Shen was like 'damnit, I was trying to get the 'save an ally below 50 hp' achievement but I just was slightly too late' - how pissed would most people get at him? Or if Veigar waited too long to stun and died because he was trying to line up the PERFECT stun to get the 'stun 3 enemies' achievement or if Karthus missed his chance to get two kills because he refused to use it in order to get three for the achievement...

It'd just create more trolling.

It sounds like a great idea, but unless you limit them to ujust coop games - which might actually be a fantastic way to spice up coop games btw - you're just asking for trouble.

The reason they work in some games - like first person shooters or RTS - is that those games are typically less team strategy oriented and less punishing on single mistakes. But I don't want to think about how bad things could get if everyone was just trying for achievements during a competitive team oriented game like League of Legends(or DotA, HotS, etc.).
