My Thoughts on new Sona... :(
Doubtful any dramatic changes will come from me sharing my thoughts on Sona, but here goes nothing.
Side note before i start: Sona was my 3rd champion i ever bought, who i bought at around level 6. She looked really cool and i liked how you could heal people, slow them, damage them, and stun them with ur ult (and hits more than one person!) that was my lvl 6 noob thinking but thats what i did. After two games of playing sona i still liked her but my teams didn't. Common level 6 things that introduced me to the community... "Sona wtf why are you maxing heal" "Sona kill yourself" "Sona just ****ing uninstall" Yada yada yada so i refunded her. Later on at around lvl 20 i picked her back up again and LOVED HER. You could heal your allies and q the enemies and use your passive for a slow or a big poke on the enemy adc or the damage reduction when they go in. In team fights you ult... spam w behind the tanks... q the carries diving your carries... and slow them so they cant get away. I was happy... everyone was happy (except her e was pretty much useless xD).
So My thoughts on the Sona rework:
Q=As everyone says and knows Sona is not tanky, health or armor wise. Starting the game with so little defence and max hp makes you a target, i mean you still even end the game with a base 1600hp. She compensated for her bad defence by poking the adc with Q and powerchord combo. Now that her q damage is less it makes this a bit harder to do without building ap (not positive but pretty sure powerchord damage on q got nerfed too), not to mention the cooldown is longer so you cant do it as much.
W=Sona used to be able to heal the adc gradually up over time. She compensated how much she healed for being able to do it often (unlike soraka). Now the cooldown is outrageous (
) and you have to be within half an adc's attack range to give them a shield that lasts 1.5 seconds... IMO this shield is useless. It isn't worth getting into range to give it because in bot lane 2-3 basic attacks happen in 1.5seconds and i can guarantee they hurt more than that shield.
E= Thank you rito for fixing her e <3 its actually somewhat useful if you can actually get into range. ( I Do find that i need captain enchant so people can get into my auras faster including this one)
R= Not much change.. Like the new dance speed that it gives... makes tf, ahri, and syndra look hilarious xD.
How to fix:
1.Give her auras some range... Doesn't need to be much just like 100 maybe 150 range.. kinda silly she has 550 basic range but has to be 300 from the adc at all times so he gets the benefit of having a support
2.Lower her cooldowns... Sona is useless nowadays if you don't RUSH athene's and lucidity boots before even buying sightstone.

Give her a bit more base health and health per level... I personally think she needs to have around 1780 or 1800 health at level 18 but thats just me.

Give her a bit of a higher mp5 or base mana... When she does get to cast spells it costs so much D:

Persistent auras... PLZ RITO I MISS THE RADIATING CIRCLES :'( ......... Not to mention she needs these back :/

More small changes to ability actives. Q - gives scaling up ad or ap upon activation for 3-5 seconds. W - gives MR or Armor upon activation. E - give 10% reduced slows

Sona's aura on q should apply to towers JUST SAYING......
TL;DR Sona is not tanky enough to be up close for these aura's. With the rework she is forced to rush mp5 and cdr instead of support items or else she is useless for extended teamfights, lane pushes, or escapes. She needs some aura changes or base stats but thats just my opinion.
These are just my thoughts take them for what they are... opinions... I just hate to see my favorite support with these changes....
