Let's talk about the Rengar rework.
Admittedly, I love the assassin update so far. It has really fleshed out so many Champions in need of a new update. The new items also compliment them really well. I think the meta this next season will be one of the most fun in terms of gameplay. In the patch notes you say you want to make each assassin distinct, and this is something I've been waiting for you guys to do. Nevertheless, I think you failed in that aspect with Rengar. To me and a lot of Rengar mains, his identity, what made him distinct, was taken away from him. Rengar's identity was in his combos. The reason you would do so much damage would be based on how reliably and quickly you can pull of these not-so-easy combos. Way back when, the triple Q combo was a lot more difficult to execute than the community portrayed. All of his combos since then have been evolving more and more out of a need to do damage, in spite of, the continued nerfs. Sure, the triple Q was a ridiculous amount of damage, but that's besides the point. Regardless, I'm getting off topic.
You have completely recreated Rengar. Now there are no combos to set up and execute. You just jump in and press Q. There's your damage. It is true that, his new W is really fun and interesting to play with (I have to give credit where it's due), but Rengar now blends in with everyone else. In fact, it seems like he's the Warwick of the Assassins. He went from being a mechanically challenging champion, on par with Riven or Zed, to one of the most simple if not the most simple Assassin. Rengar's combo went from R-Ghostblade-Q-E-W-AA-Tiamat-AA-Q to just pressing R, if on the off chance that didn't kill them already you can press Q or E if you want. This is the most unsatisfying way to burst someone. I believe high level Rengar play has been killed by these changes. This rewards Bronze-tier Junglers to kill Bronze-tier AD Carries and no one else.
Furthermore, his new ultimate is also terrible. I'm fine with the camouflage. I think it's a healthy change overall, but I'm not okay with how you changed who Rengar sees. The most skilled hunter that can take down any prey is noticed by the closest person he sees at 4000 units away? How does that make any sense? How does that fit his character and make him distinct? That's not stalking or hunting your prey. The fact that they know you're there turns it into a chase of cat and mouse. His old ult (where he sees everyone and makes a decision on who is best to jump on) was much, much more fitting to his character and rewarded smart players. They would only notice him if he was within a certain range, and he would be able to set up a kill while in the shadows (like a hunter and assassin should). At this point, why not just play Kha'zix? His leap has more range, he has an escape route with evolved E, and his ult has so much more utility.
These are just a few things I've picked up on while talking to other Rengar mains as well as my own conclusions from playing the game and reading patch notes. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Riot, I want to know: **How does any of Rengar's changes set him apart from the other assassins? What exactly makes him distinct? **
P.S. Please just take the channeling off of his bola. It serves no purpose. It just makes him feel more clunky than he already is.
