My point wasn't to say to cripple healing as that's already been done with the reduction of heals to other champions by 50%. If you aren't investing into playing that heal support style in a match, it's not worth it.
Ever since the Howling Abyss Aura was even introduced, I did a lot less ally healing especially on Soraka in the early game because why trade 100 HP to heal someone 60 HP; I rather be an aggressive spellslinger. Granted, she was also the only champion I habitually relied on the Warmogs for. Now that it's gone, should the roll allows me to play Soraka again, I'll just have to resort to an old tactic. Not a problem.
As for the latter part:
it feels really bad to play tanks when a decent chunk of the champs can just heal back up while you sit there low
Nothing's stating that you have to sit there low while opponents can top off. Even in the game I linked, they had
. At any point they could have just disengaged enough to cover bases. Even still, I as
resorted to full tank after a double
double
start thinking it wouldn't be all too stressful. When I knew I was low and needed more health for the upcoming teamfight, I didn't just rely on what I had in HP. I surveyed our position on the map, fleshed out how fast they could push during my death timer, took a death (might have caused 2 more), got back up and dissuaded their siege by attacking (and sometimes ulting) the minion wave.
I trusted my carries. Even if we lost (and we almost did) I was still smiling. "Win some, lose some." That's what I do in my context of playing it smarter. In no way is it perfect or fun, but I'm the kind of player who makes anything refreshing if I'm not getting flamed for why I'm not playing like another random player expects me to
