How to Deal with Toxicity

League is a fun game. That said it is know for a somewhat toxic player base, so whether you are a new player just getting used to the game or have been playing for a while here are some tips that I find helpful and I hope will help you too!

  1. Golden Rule- This seems pretty obvious but commonly falls by the wayside. Treat others as you would like to be treated. When a teammate makes a mistake support them, help them to learn from it in a positive way. They will be much more receptive of encouragement and advice when they aren't being told that they are butt trumpets. "For tranquility."-Janna

  2. Be like Teflon- So you have made a mistake and a player chooses to give you all sorts of grief for it. That player is not helping you or the team so don't let that negativity stick. Try your best to ignore them while at the same time considering what your mistake was so you can learn from it. By doing this you can turn a negative moment into an experience for growth. "A rolling golem gathers no rust."-Blitzcrank

  3. "Stay Positive!"-Lux - Go into games with a positive attitude. Set the tone with a "Glhf"(Good luck have fun) or something of the like. This lets your team and opponents know that you are here to have fun playing a game you enjoy.

  4. Don't feed the Toxic Trolls- Toxic players thrive off of feedback, so usually the best thing you can do is ignore them and not respond to their hate. At the same time if they are flaming a teammate don't jump in and participate, if that teammate is really trying their best encourage them and come to their aid. "I lend my aid."-Soraka

  5. Take a Break- If the what someone said still gets to you finish your match and take a little break. Cool down before you jump into another game so you can go in without that negativity hanging over you. Toxic players can infect you with that negativity, don't let them! "I recommend skipping!"-Lulu

  6. Reporting Players- If you have had an especially bad experience with another player that really puts you off playing the game report them. However reserve this for really bad cases, with as many toxic players as LoL has reporting every little thing would be a bit pointless, and a report should not be taken lightly. "Be judged!"-Kalista

  7. Compliment Other Players- Whether on your team or not, when someone plays well, let them know with a "GJ" or "WP" (Good Job or Well Played). So many people are focused only on what players are doing wrong that they miss the things they are doing well. So give other players a pat on the back now and then, at the end of the game give them a Teamwork, Friendly, or Honorable Opponent. This positivity will help combat any toxicity going on in-game. Number 7 is a really good one but it doesn't always work unfortunately. :C

Every now and then you will have that heckler that will constantly derail everything positive you say. Generally speaking that guys comments are going to hit the fellow player harder than your comment.
