Mastery point system makes no sense

On the non-keystone masteries, is there any reason to not dump all of your 5 points on the same one? You cant even put 50/50, if you like both you are forced to go 3/2 or 2/3. You are actually choosing one over the other anyways so why wouldnt you put all the points in the 'prefered' one...?

In the cunning tree I usually go 4/5 into merciless and 1/5 into meditation Tiny extra bit of mana for virtually no damage loss is nice

It's also common to go 4/5 into natural talent and 1/5 into Vampirism You lose 1AD/1AP early but you get 0.4% LS and Spellvamp which adds up over the laning phase to a bit of health regained which is definitely worth it

Honestly the 5 point for basic mastery and 1 point for every other tier seriously restricts the player. That's before you consider that not finishing a tree is objectively worse than going 50/50 between two trees. It fucking sucked when World of Warcraft did it, and it still fucking sucks when League does it.

There was a post on Summoner School about how some pros go 4/1 in Natural Talent and Vampirism because their analysts calculated that the 1 point in Vampirism gave enough sustain to be quite valuable. I think 4/1 in Merciless and Meditation might also be a thing, but I am less sure of this one.
