Climbing On A Non-carry Role.

Hi everyone, I'm FatalOverload. I am currently Gold 3 on the NA server and this is discussion is something that I have been thinking about for a long time and I wanted to get some other peoples thoughts on the matter. So I am a Jungle/Support main and within those roles I typically play tankier champions rather than carry style champions. A problem that I run into on frequent occasion is that there will be many games when I'm playing something like Amumu in the jungle and I will be just for an example lets say 4-1-7 but my carries will be something along the lines of 2-8-3. Typically this will result in losing the game because my carries will get deleted and I'm left standing there tanky as hell but it doesn't matter because my carries fed the enemy carries. I ask myself what a pro would do in this situation and I have talked to some of my friends that are in high Plat and low Diamond and typically they have one of two answers which leave me very frustrated. They normally tell me learn a carry role OR just hope for better teammates next game. I feel like those are poor choices because honestly I despise carry roles, being incredibly squishy is just not my style, and as for the better teammates next game standpoint, I feel like that is simply rolling the dice and hoping, which is not an efficient way to climb. So ultimately it boils down to learn a carry role/champion in order to climb, which just seems unfair because I am typically good at tanks and rarely have a poor score, even when we lose. I believe that the rank system should be more reflective of the players performance and not the entire teams performance. Because as things stand, I believe that my friends are right and it is incredibly difficult to climb on anything other than a carry role/champion.

I'm inclined to agree with your friends, unfortunately. It's a team game, so ideally/at the higher levels of play, carry champions are just as reliant on support/tank champions as support/tank champions are on carries. However, since matchmaking is pretty chaotic, you end up getting away with a lot of things you wouldn't normally get away with. For tanks/supports, getting these advantages don't usually translate to much, but as a carry, they typically translate to free kills or objectives.

Because we have dynamic queue now, one thing you can do is just team up with reliable carries; they don't have to be spectacular, just solid enough to make use of the advantages you bring to the team.

That is often what I have found myself doing, and I really like your point about tanks/supports advantages not meaning as much, i just wish that those advantages did mean more. I miss the days when Cinderhulk first came out and the tank meta was around. Those were the days.

Perfect example, I just played a game of Soraka support, I was 0-2-20 but we lost because our Yasuo mid was 5-13-5. I feel like this happens far too often. That's why I say ranked should be based on my performance as a player, instead of my teams performance overall.

Yea, I basically stopped playing support, just because if I'm in a carry role, I can at least not feed

Yeah I hate that LP gains/losses are completely based on the win or loss. I feel like if you did well as a player and loss, then you should be losing a lot less points then if you lost, gave up 12 kills and did nothing impactful.

But to answer your post question, I found that playing peel supports make winning easier. Hard to have those dumb carries die when you make it so easy to escape, however it isnt a fail-proof concept but it does help.

I mean.... Soraka is about as "keep the idiot alive" as can be haha. but as I said in that game, it was my mid laner that fed ridiculously. Not much I can do from a support position when mid is losing 1v1. :/

5 13 5? was he team fighting with you guys? because if he was thats why you lost he should of been split pushing

He left laning phase like 1-5-? He was losing 1v1s in laning phase.

1-5? i've left laning phase like that and carried he must of just been bad

That's just the way it is. Once your high enough (plat, diamond) you can pick a team reliant champion when going solo, then you know your team can pick up slack damage while you soak it up for them. I'm not high enough Atm to pick a team reliant champ unless I'm playing with friends

Queue with someone you know is competent, learn a carry role or pray to the ELO gods that you'll get at least one decent player playing a carry champion.

Agree, duo with a decent carry and keep them alive by blocking/peeling for them. I play tank roles as well solo I'm 50/50 wins, if I duo with a good carry my win rate is like 85%. I push and keep them alive we win, solo queue 50% of the games are lost in the lane phase. That's why you need good carries that can go even or win.

I see your point and i honestly think it is probably the best way but I truly feel like I should be rewarded for playing well on a non-carry champion just as much as I would be playing a carry champion.
