Let's talk about Nunu

So... this nunu rework (because it is a rework). I'm having trouble figuring out what counter play there is to Nunu, especially as a melee champion. Because Consume deals a significant amount of true damage, building stacks of Well Fed is not difficult in any sense of the word. As such, Nunu pretty much permanently has bonus 50 MS (yes, essentially free item 3009 , along with the health, but that's not really the issue.

The issue is that Nunu is building Runic Echoes and CDR. Nunu then runs around at 430+ MS, and throws snowballs at melee champions. Literally running circles around you. And because he gets free health, he can build straight armor, and thus his main threat (ranged AA champions) deal little to no damage unless they have a item 3036 and probably a item 3022 .

Nunu has infinite kite potential with little to no counter play, in addition to the MR/Armor shred, and near-root with a fully charged ultimate. Melee champions don't have any chance to do anything against a nunu, and the synergy between his Q and E is just too strong.

The nearest comparison i can think of is a level 9 20% CDR mini-gnar. but he doesn't have the same levels of insane MS, and he can't do it infinitely as eventually he'll go mega.

Nunu can do a lot of things like that because in the end he doesn't really do all that much. Imagine a Singed with his poison trail replaced with a free smite and the ult a janky version of Galio's; that's Nunu.

We all know the popular phrase: "Your objective as Nunu should be to make your opponent just as useless as Nunu." Whether that involves counterjungling the hell out of them or making their laning phase as wrist-slittingly frustrating as possible.

In the end a Nunu can't really carry. The best he can do is make the game a 4.5v4 and bodyguard his carries. If you take away the unfair things about Nunu's kit, he'd need a complete VGU Sion style since there would be very little left.

The buffs he got were sort of a bandaid fix. Riot knows Nunu needs a lot of work, but it's going to be a while before he gets his turn considering WW and Galio are up next. So Riot helped solidify Nunu's niche as the counterjungler of League. A title he lost to several other champs before this buff.

Its non-combat movement speed so as soon as he throws that first snowball its gone. Aside from that first snowball I don't see how this is any different from how Nunu has always been, now he's just slightly better at it.

His 15% health buff is usually around 400-500 extra health at a full 6 item build. In the mid-game its the equivalent of one extra health crystal or so. That's really not a ton of extra stats. Plenty of tanks have more innate free tanking stats than that (looking at you, Shyvana).

Overall this has nothing to do with the way in which Nunu was buffed, just that he was buffed at all. He's always been an extremely annoying, one-dimensional, slightly degenerate champion. You're just only seeing it now because he's actually kind of viable for the first time in years.
