Have you ever actually tried playing him? People think he is a simple ult bot but they don't realize how ridiculously long 2.5 seconds is in this time of one shot the squishies. If you ult too early before the enemy is committed they just walk away and if you ult too late your carries die. It also seems like more than half the roster has a dash now making his stun difficult to land without a lot of practice.
Maybe if people would bring an enchanter to match him instead of mages, they'd be able to counter it. Hell, Janna does a fantastic job of matching his healing at the same time as ruining their attempted engage.
It's obvious to anyone who pays attention
In twisted treeline with a halfway competent yi, olaf, jax, (whatever super strong melee aa carry) taric is pretty oppresive to play against I always ban him in that mode. 5v5 is a sifferent story there are many supports more scary than him such as thresh or tahm kench.
