Demoting at 0 lp after ranking up

seriously why isn't there some kind of guard protecting you from a demote as soon as you rank? this shit game makes it impossible for me to rankup if i can't even win a single game before being taken down to 75 lp gold 4 again... very nice game 10/10

"After being promoted into a new division or tier, you’ll gain the effects of a demotion ‘shield,’ which prevents you from dropping. This is to keep you from winning a series, losing a few games and then immediately dropping back to where you were. The shield lasts for 3 games after advancing a division, and 10 games after advancing a tier (3 games for Master tier)."

So losing 3 games in a row after ranking up puts you back to your previous division?

you have to lose a lot of games. you can see how you're doing with the negative LP score that pops up, when it reaches -100 you demote down a coloured tier (bronze, iron, silver, gold, plati), or at least that's what it was before these new tiers went live but i don't see a reason for it to change. no clue how the masters+ ladders are handled.

if the shield lasts for 3 games, it should require 4 losses in a row to demote. or potentially 1 win with 2 losses in the first 3, then another loss. The shield has saved my butt quite a few times, especially after i finally got to silver (had to work way up from iron 5 since i hadn't played in so long) then had troll after troll, like a karthus who was afk for most of first 15 minutes but it wouldn't let us remake since he technically did connect even though he never bought anything or moved from spawn. I think i lost 5-6 in a row with 0 LP but didn't get demoted because of that division up shield.
