What's the science behind where you rank after provisionals?

I've played 4 seasons now, and I always rank roughly one full division behind where I left off. Just curious how the system really works. Does it take into account anything besides where you left off, and how many games you win in provisionals? Do ward's, K.D.A, objective takedowns, or anything else matter?

it takes your mmr (lets say your mmr is 2000 which is right around P1/D5) then it adds 1200 so now you have a rating of 3200. Then it divides this by 2 to give your new mmr which equals 1600 which is about P5/G1. Then of course you play your 10 games and start your new season.

I can't claim to know, but, whatever it is, I don't think the word "science" belongs anywhere in that question.
