New Features - Quests + Others!!

Howdy!! Karn Bot here, and truth be told, I've kinda grown bored of League. I've dabbled in a couple other MoBA's before, but none really had that 'established' feeling that League does. Personally, Smite feels somewhat clunky with it's first person jazz, I played Dawngate and that was kinda fun but the visuals weren't for me. Recently however I downloaded HoTS and I've got to say, it's simplicity is rather nice. No last hitting, team wide exp, quick games, all of it lead to a very enjoyable light hearted experience. I do however miss how deep League is compared to HoTS, but some features from HoTS really stood out as amazing for a MoBA. (No it's not the lack of CSing or team-wide exp)

The first one is just a short point. I like having a locked screen, yet at the same time I also dislike how restraining it can be. HoTS has a locked/unlocked toggle, but the locked screen isn't a true locked screen, it's more of a soft-lock or a hybrid of locked/unlocked. Basically it's locked in the sense that the camera automatically follows your character, but it's not a true lock because you can move the cursor to the edge of the screen and it'll move up to a set distance in that direction, all the while still moving with your character. After some time, if your cursor still isn't in the area you moved the screen towards, it'll automatically move back to its standard position. See Video

(P.S. The video is NOT mine, and I take no claims of ownership, also it was surprisingly hard to find a video of the locked screen as most people who post on youtube apparently like unlocked)

The second feature that I feel would be a good addition is a quest sort of thing. As above, HoTS has a quest feature and it just feels wonderful! It's limited to 3 quests, but you get a new one every day and they reward gold for buying champs, etc. Truthfully, a quest system wouldn't help me out a ton (I have most champs and don't need a lot more runes) but it would help out newer players get over that entry wall IMMENSELY!! Personally, I think having a max of 5 quests would be ideal, and maybe if you don't have any active quests you could generate two, but if you do have an active quest then you would only generate one. This would help add incentive to completing all the quests, as you could possibly get up to two a day, but if for some reason you're busy for a couple of days, starting from an empty quest log would take 4 days to fill completely, which would give plenty of time to miss a day or two and not get punished. The quests shouldn't focus on winning the game, although a few could, but rather should focus on making the game a better place and helping people improve.

A couple of quest ideas I had are:

  • Place X amount of wards that last at least 60 (or Y) seconds. This quest would help encourage people to ward, and since it has a time limit on how long the wards need to last, it 'helps' prevent people from just spamming 5 wards at the very end of the game (Although there are still ways to abuse it)

  • Get X "Honorable Opponent" honors. This would encourage people to be friendly and personable, and while it might all be fake, the saying 'Fake it til you make it' comes to mind. If they fake it enough, it'll eventually become second nature and they'll actually be nicer

  • Play X games at Y lane/role. The reason this is 'Play games' instead of 'Win games' is because it's to encourage playing the game, and helps reinforce the fact that we play games for fun, not only to win. If it was 'Win games' it could promote more aggressive behavior during a losing game (which is bad).

  • Get a X KDA ratio. This isn't a KD ratio, but a KDA ration which would be (Kills + [Assists/2])/Deaths. This does promote better gameplay and could cause some more toxic/selfish behavior, but if done correctly can also help people try NOT to die. (Admittedly, this is probably one of the weaker quest ideas)

  • Use the actives on items X times. This'll help promote people to, hopefully, remember those dang actives!!

  • Reduce X amount of damage during one exhaust. (Or any other summoner spell related quest that encourages people to use different spells)

Also, for the amount of IP that the quests should give, I think that having about 20-30 quests give enough to buy a 6300IP champ wouldn't be a bad balance. It would mean at minimum of 10-15 days of constant playing or about 315 IP - 210 IP per quest and given that they should normally take more than one game to complete, I think it's somewhat fair (Not on the commerce team, so I'm probably overshooting the value horribly)

What do you think?? :)

Edit - Forgot a poll!! Ninja Straw poll here!!

Cool quest ideas from others:
