wat.
mastery score is just the sum of your champion mastery levels across all champions. do you have any idea how fast you can raise that shit just by playing arams and getting the first few mastery levels on many different champions?
you could be a master tier player with a mastery score of like 10 or 20 if you 1 trick your way up there and dont play more than 3 champions.
champion mastery score has absolutely shit to do with player skill.
I have to disagree. While it may be true that older players still possess experience on champs they haven't played in a while, the balance changes and reworks have come so frequently that by now, lower mastery scores will generally indicate a lack of experience at least for recent times if nothing else. A player that has little to no experience playing champions that they do not love is going to usually have difficulty understanding their own mistakes because they won't always fully understand their opponents/allies that have very different champions from them.
Of course, I'm one of those guys that thinks any time a champion gets a GU, their mastery level for all players needs to be reset to 0. Problem with that idea is that players that spend resources acquiring levels 6 and 7 would lose their investment unless hitting those points locked it in for them. I have no problem getting my mastery 4/5 champ reset to 0. After all, if I don't have experience on the new champ, why should I have that mastery level? And that way, after someone does get the newer experience, the mastery 4/5 flairs in loading screen will mean more to other players, because they know that the player for sure took the time to relearn the champion.

you can literally farm mastery scores by intentionally feeding every single game. Yes it's going to take longer but you can do it. mastery score means nothing overall. I can have max mastery on every single champion in the game and still be bronze 5. Does that make me any better than someone who has a minute fraction of the mastery score but it's in gold+? i highly doubt it
Well, I mean at that point the player just sets themselves up for a ban for abusing their teammates and not respecting their opponents.

point is, mastery score means little. You can lose a bunch or just win and lose and get nowhere rank wise. Looking at what the mastery score is in a vacuum tells me nothing about the player other than how much time he has and how many champions he likes playing. Literally nothing else. It doesn't tell me how good he is at the game. A challenger player is a challenger player regardless of whether he has 30 mastery score or 500 (no idea if it even reaches that high). A bronze player is a bronze player regardless of whether he has those same mastery scores
Winning increases the speed at which you level up, though. There's no denying that. It can't be helped that some people make bots do their leveling for them and then they learn nothing during that time and then they cry that it's hard to get mastery level 6. Yeah, because they were lazy and didn't get to 5 legitimately.

make bots... sorry but what? you seem to have this misunderstanding that anyone who reaches mastery lvl 5 or higher with any champion is actually good at the game and is actually a gold+ player. I can play the game, win some lose some. Reach lvl 5 with ease and still be at he same rank i was before.
i got 635 lol
Skimming through my friends list, I'm actually seeing a negative correlation between rank and mastery score.
As in, the higher ranked people tend to have lower ones than the low ranked people, which might be related to how many low rank players jump around between a ton of champions/roles and never really get good at any of them.
mastery scores don't keep people from being matched with each other...
look i think you are wrong cause i have 93 mastery points and all my points are from leveling a champ to 7 mastery.i now have 10 champions mastery 7 and i did hard to do it and i didnt f know that aram raises mastery points the easy way ,so i believe mastery points is important if you leveling champs to the end mastery 7.yes if someone dont raise that on aram yes it says that this player has invest many time to raise his champs to 7.the more champs he has mastery 7 the blue insignia then yes he is a very good player for me but... i think riot must find a solution to this, but not really needed cause if you see how many champs he has mastery 7 you will know if he is good,if you dont see many heroes mastery 7 and he has perhaps 400 mastery points then yes doesnt mean he is good...mastery 7 points on a heroe is important even if he is not playing ranked he still is a very good player if he has many champs mastery 7 as i said...
