Mid Lane: 21/0/9 vs. 21/9/0

Every high elo korean player uses 21/0/9 masteries when playing champs such as: ezreal, leblanc, kassadin, jayce, orianna, etc. The only time they use 21/9/0 is when they use zed. They don't go for runic affinity but for biscuits. For some reason Koreans think sustain is everything in lane. While on the other hand, I never see NA or EU players go 21/0/9 on any mid laners.

They also take a point out of somewhere on the ability tree in masteries (cdr or ability per level) for butcher and feast.

As far as solo Q goes, I still believe 21/9/0 is the best way to go since as a mid laner at almost every elo you're expected to snowball your lane yourself. That means dueling and the extra 40+ HP and defense is a lot more beneficial for dueling.

Your thoughts?

I use 21/0/9 for Mages, Biscuits means that Reds heal for an additional 35 hp Strength of Spirit provides about the same Health Regen as Recovery Meditation +3 mana regen per 5 means an extra spell every 2 minutes

21/0/9 helps for most AP mids as the slight amount of extra health you get isn't all that great, and you shouldn't be close enough, if you're playing well, to be taking much damage from minions or enemy auto attacks, the only two sources of physical damage in the early part of a game. They instead need the extra trinket range so they don't have to move so far from their minions to ward bushes, and the extra mana regen so they can stay in lane for longer.

A Zed, or by extension a Talon, on the other hand has to open himself up to retaliation by having to be within melee range of minions. He needs a little bit of extra health and regen to get through the early part with his health intact. Zeds also aren't reliant on mana, so they don't need the utility tree to help their regen as AP champs do.

You are not expected to snowball your lane by yourself. You're expected to hold your lane as best as you can and, if able, get kills. If a midlaner was expected to snowball a lane than junglers would never bother ganking it, or never be willing to part with second or third blues.

I run 21/0/9 for ori, and with biscuit, and 21/7/2 for syndra

I honestly really like the movement speed in the utility tree, and it seems like the early tank tree stuff doesnt do much unless you are building tank.
