A Preemptive Plea About Precarious Parity regarding Ahri.

Because alliterations are fun.

As a preface, I know I'm going to get some shit for this one, but it needs to be said.

With Ahri's unfortunate rise to being picked or banned in LCS, and we all know what being picked in LCS does to a champion, I'd like to have Riot hear my plea. PLEASE do not touch her numbers with one exception. Her kit is fine barring two things and the only reason why she is as contested as she is, is because of indirect buffs. Between itemization and meta changes, one reason that stands out is because the champions that performed well against her have been or are being nerfed.

If she absolutely has to be nerfed, there are two things that should be hit and have been alluded to in the previous paragraph. The first is her Q movement speed. Move it to her Ultimate as a passive to reduce her safety in laning phase where she used to be much riskier pre 6. Alternatively, you can make it only activate when she hits an enemy champion with her Q, but that's a lesser nerf. The second thing that should be hit before anything else is her R cooldown. She's reliant on it mid game to make plays and keep herself safe and as is, it's on a fairly short cooldown. By increasing her R CD, it should make Ahri players think about using her R more and should reduce frustration playing against her as people say the main grievance they have against her is that she has too many "Get Out of Jail Free" cards due to the availability of her R.

Preferred nerfs would be indirect nerfs in the form of her itemization, TLD (which could use that spell interaction nerf where 1 spell can't make more than one TLD stack), or buffing champions she struggles with.

I wait my damnation of downvote hell.

as an ahri main i agree with this, it's rare to lose lane with ahri because of what she has

moving the Q movement speed to ult can make her weaker to lane bullies like kat or talon

They are just going to nerf something pointless rather than the actual problem which is her safety cause riot loves to "fix" everything but the problem itself.

Don't worry, I wouldn't want her gutted. And I doubt Riot would either. Because Floofy Tail.

As for your concerns about being downvote bombed, it's a valid concern considering the hatred that surrounds mobile champs, but I personally feel that Ahri is quite fair as she doesn't instamurder unless ahead. Now your two suggestions for nerfs sound not only valid in addressing concerns revolving around her game health, but also would legitimately lower her power.

But as a general rule buffing everyone else instead of nerfing the strong champ is a leading cause of powercreep.

Just remove the Q speed entirely. She only got it because people were worried she wouldn't exist after Deathfire was removed. Guess what, she's just fine.

I still remember when DFG was removed from the game and certain champions were given "compensation" for it's removal.

Ahri, who doesn't even synergize particularly well with the item, got 200 bonus movement speed on her Q (I rank this in the top 5 worst balance decisions ever made by Riot), and her entire kit was reverted to the braindead state before her mini rework that forced her to land a charm before going in.

Veigar, who DFG was practically designed for, got a delay on his stun.

Riot's balancing is truly legendary.

They are not gonna touch her. Ahri has been riot's pet favourite for 5 seasons. Sporting an impressive 54% winrate assassin, with mobility and amazing crowd control.

THE RlVER KlNG3/13/2017, 7:55:36 PM9 votes

Something should be done about her generality IMO

Mobile pick assassin with sustain, waveclear, low cooldowns, and true damage

Something has to go. I would advocate for straight up removing the movement speed on her Q, lowering its mana cost, and increasing her ult cooldown slightly (even something like 5-10 seconds at each rank) is the way to go. The problem with Ahri is that once she hits 6 she dictates the flow of the lane thanks to her being able to decide when a fight is allowed to happen, because she can bypass her abilities being skillshot reliant since she can dash onto you, E-W-Q and get in the other two charges to either kill you or get away from tower/jungler. It's pretty foolproof unless they are Lissandra or another assassin basically, and since her ult has a pretty low cooldown for the power it gives, she doesn't lose much if she doesn't secure the kill, because chances are she in the very least blew flash. For a burst mage, she is very safe, and for an assassin-type character she has plenty of range and one of the best CCs in the game. She is a mix of two champion archetypes that are already problematic on their own.

I don't like Ahri, but I don't want her gutted. I just think she was already in a strong enough state to warrant nerfs as it is, since she's sat on a 52-54% winrate and a 10-20% pickrate for like 4 seasons now. The only reason she stopped being picked in the LCS in mid-season 6 was because of the MYMU and objectively broken picks like Vlad and Malz and Swain. Before that, it was literally her, Zed, Syndra, and the odd Viktor/Ryze/LeBlanc as the top picks, all the time.

Good luck and I hope Riot does what's best, however.

I agree with the R cooldown nerf. It seems like a better area to hit and rewards better planning.

Chromatic Eagle3/13/2017, 3:52:39 PM7 votes

Why not move the move speed to W?

FalconPawwwwnch3/13/2017, 6:01:49 PM5 votes

Ahri's been OP for years now in solo queue

She had better stats than Darius and he got nerfed for solo queue

  1. Nerfing TL would nerf many other champions, it's just easier to nerf Ahri
  2. Buffing champs she struggles with causes unnecessary powercreep

Nerfs are deserved

PiVoRx3/13/2017, 10:37:06 PM4 votes

Riot nerfing Ahri.. you belive in ghosts as well?

SweedishGunner3/13/2017, 8:20:34 PM4 votes

Honestly if I were to change Ahri it would be to her passive. Make is worse earlier and actually make it useful later in the game. Right now it provides a crap tonne of free sustain in lane and isn't even noticeable later in the game.

LostFr0st3/13/2017, 3:23:49 PM3 votes

Ahri has been strong with a high playrate for a while; as has Lux. (They both have a ton of dedicated players though, so the playrate can be excused a bit)

That being said, her hard lanes have indeed been nerfed. The upcoming Ori meta also favours her. I like your suggestions and hope they look into them rather than other stuff.

Linna Excel3/13/2017, 4:31:22 PM3 votes

The first is her Q movement speed. Move it to her Ultimate as a passive to reduce her safety in laning phase where she used to be much riskier pre 6.

This is interesting. So she gets 3%/6%/9% bonus MS whenever she levels her ult? This would make her a little riskier earlier but help her a tiny bit later when she falls off a tad.

That said, I don't think she needs a nerf exactly. I think her fox fire needs to be either a skill shot of some kind (preferred method) or a 3 hit passive to force ahri into longer trades and slightly buff the rare ADC Ahri.

Theorchero3/14/2017, 12:43:04 AM2 votes

God I hated Riot with a burning passion for adding that fucking ridiculous Q movespeed.

TOTALLY unnecessary, STUPID to add, and made her a bitch to balance.

Fuck man.

Häßlich3/13/2017, 2:48:39 PM2 votes

I've always thought the Q movespeed was pretty bull**** anyway, tbh. Even when I was playing her semi-regularly for awhile. Just removing that and putting the back half of the damage from it to magic instead of true (and giving it a slight AP ratio buff) would be perfect, imo.

But I'm no Ahri main, so feel free to take my opinion with a grain of salt.
