Theory Craft Solutions for Soraka's Viability

I've been reading through the PBE thread on Soraka rework and had a few thoughts:

  1. Could riot add a small knockback to the hotspot/center of soraka's q? That would allow for a well positioned q to peel and/or keep enemies in range of her eventual "E" snare.

  2. Would it be a good solution for riot to keep the current range of soraka's w (the one on live servers), and simply have her w heal crit/scale based on distance from the ally? I think this would work to tie in her passive to her kit, and allow for more strategic play. Obviously, the base heal numbers would probably have to be scaled down, but this might help her avoid being forced to feed everytime she saves someone.

Considering cass went live with a sub 40% win rate, I've got no faith that soraka will be viable on release. She can't self heal nor heal up between fights. The range on her W is supposedly terrible. From what I read, people building full support feel useless. She's not going to be building much health or sustain and in most games she'll probably be squishy as heck. Her mana costs look to be bad and now she has health costs too.

Don't get me wrong, she could be viable, but I wouldn't expect her to be in this meta.

I can't say much about improving this Soraka until I get my hands on her, but for starters, I would like to see the self heal passive moved from Astral Infusion to Starcall itself, and have it proc on minions as well as champions, and keep the current Starcall cooldown progression & mana cost (all the cooldowns, preferably). Possibly, I would like to see Equinox both damage and root at the end of the cast animation, giving something to solo lane Soraka, or in my case, Dominion, since I rarely play on SR anymore, and support builds don't mean much on the Crystal Scar.

At present, the damage is on the initial proc of the spell and when the root activates with a .4 ap ratio on both procs.

I've been preping up a unique rune page just for her. Very heavy hp/p5 per level (total of 33/p5 by 18). Effectively, running around with super-massive health regen with Spirit Visage and Talisman, and full 0/21/9 masteries, to enable her to actually not depend on landing a horridly unreliable Q to stay alive while healing.

Not sure how it will work, but not like my 45k IP had anything else to do at the time.
