One of these days I'd like to see an actual-factual NEW Juggernaut for a change
(If this post is too long for you, here's a TL;DR)
#TL;DR: We need an actual NEW JUGGERNAUT, NOT JUST VGU'S OF EXISTING CHAMPIONS BEING MADE INTO THEM.
First let me say that in spite of how little I've gotten to play it Riot, I say that you hit the nail right on the head with the Morde VGU. Love it, it's awesome.
Urgot is also great, I've picked him up and loved it since his VGU that made him a Juggernaut.
Aatrox has had his problems, but I've played him more now than I ever did before his VGU that made him into a Juggernaut.
I love Yorick too, and while I haven't played all that much of Illaoi, I can see the appeal she has for those that DO play her.
Some may have differing opinions, but I'm hoping you can keep this track record up with Volibear's VGU in 2020 (And possibly Shyvana and/or Dr Mundo too, who knows)
Now that that's out of the way, let me get to the real subject of this post.
We haven't had an ACTUAL NEW JUGGERNAUT SINCE Illaoi, who was released in late 2015 (11-24-2015 to be exact). Each Juggernaut that's been made/released in the roughly 4 years since then has been a VGU, a Rework of an existing champion. Said champions were either already Juggernauts in accordance with the Sub-Class listings (I believe this was the case with Yorick and obviously now Mordekaiser.) Or they were turned INTO Juggernauts with the VGU, which is what occurred with Urgot and Aatrox.
##In Chronological Order since Illaoi's release:
September 8th, 2016: Yorick's VGU launched. 3 Months and a couple days short of a full year after Illaoi's release.
July 26th, 2017: Urgot's VGU launched. About 1 Month and a couple days shy of a full year after Yorick's VGU.
June 27th, 2018: Aatrox's VGU launched. 1 month and 1 day short of a year since Urgot's VGU.
June 12th, 2019: Mordekaiser VGU is now launched. Only 15 days short of a full year since Aatrox's VGU.
If the trend continues, we MAY see Volibear's VGU in some patch shortly one year after Morde's. (A guesstimation might be somewhere like Patch 10.17 or something like that, I don't know)
If you want to get technical about it, that probably isn't a true full 4 years, but I think it's long enough to say that the point I'm trying to make has at least SOME merit. That point being...
WE NEED AN ACTUAL-FACTUAL NEW JUGGERNAUT.
With the upcoming release of Qiyana, we'll be getting an entirely new faction: Ixtal.
Ixtal can then be added to the list of regions that do NOT have a Juggernaut in their champion pools:
Ionia The Void Targon Piltover (Edit: I forgot Bandle City)
(As Zaun, Noxus, The Freljord, Demacia, Shurima and the Shadow Isles have Juggernauts in their champion pools)
I've made posts about this in the past, and you can find them with the following links:
Here's one about Regions that are missing Juggernauts
Here's one about existing characters being rebranded into Juggernauts
Here's another about ideas I had for Juggernauts for Targon and Piltover
Though that last one is kind of redundant; I'm pretty sure I reiterate some of the points in that first post that appear in the bottom one.
Anyways, back on task.
Let's think about it. Think about ALL the possible potential an ACTUAL NEW JUGGERNAUT could have from ANY of the above regions! In one of my posts in the past I suggested the following ideas for at least Ionia and Targon:
IDEAS FOR IONIA : Looking at Ionia, most of the champions that come from there are quick moving people with lots of mobility and dashes. The only one that could be considered slow (Aside from the ADCs anyway) would be
since he is a Tank (Warden being his Subclass). So the lack of a Juggernaut champion coming from Ionia could be attributed to the fact that most of the people are quick-moving, mobile champs. But, while it's certainly not a 1-to-1 matchup, Ionia obviously takes inspiration from Chinese and Japanese culture. (Feudal Era, Chinese Dynasties, etc.) So I'm thinking that the kind of design that could work for an Ionian Juggernaut might be based around the idea of a Samurai.
You know, these kinds of guys: https://orig00.deviantart.net/7ec5/f/2010/002/5/4/samurai_by_geeshin.jpg
(This artwork is NOT MINE, just using it as a visual aid)
The idea of some Ionian Warrior wearing this kind of armor would work thematically for the "Melee Titan" design Juggernauts are meant to have, as the heavy armor would logically slow him down. The armor would also provide the logical design of him being able to tank a large amount of damage as well. In terms of what weapon he could wield, I personally would take some cues from Auron of Final Fantasy X.
In that game, Auron wields large and heavy katanas, being a powerhouse with high amounts of HP and Strength for the party. (Sound familiar?) Many of them have the "Piercing" ability or break through armor (Where have we seen THAT before in Juggernaut Kits?). Many of his Overdrive/Limit Break attacks are powerful, heavy-hitting strikes. (Noticing a pattern here?)
So, I would say that a hypothetical Ionian Juggernaut could be a Samurai-type warrior of Ionia that wields a large, heavy two-handed Katana/Sword similar in design to that of a Zanbato. Zanbato are especially large, single-edged swords dating to the Heian period of historical Japan. Such a large weapon would match the theme of many of the Juggernauts wielding large, powerful weapons. Examples are
with his huge Axe,
has his huge Mace,
has his huge Club, etc.
Let me add to this now that yes, I know, Yasuo is probably supposed to be a Samurai-esque character for LOL, but I say he is more of a Ronin than a true SAMURAI.
IDEAS FOR MOUNT TARGON
There are those that have suggested that
or
, when they get reworked, get made into Juggernauts or something similar. While I'm not trying to downplay those that have suggested such things, I'm going to move forward with my own idea for a Targonian Juggernaut.
Mount Targon is heavily inspired by Mount Olympus and Greek Mythology in general. Ancient Greek Military often focused around combat between individuals, which lines up very well with the "Duelist" or "strong in 1V1 fights" theme that the Juggernauts often portray. The weapons they used were varied, so it's kind of difficult to nail down any particular kind of weapon that our hypothetical Juggernaut would use. Another thing you could take inspiration from for this Juggernaut concept is the Gladiators of ancient Rome. In various forms of popular media, the Gladiators are often portrayed as huge, buff guys, which lines up well with the "Melee Titan" theme once again.
Though with Pantheon's upcoming VGU, who knows, he could be made a Juggernaut, though I doubt it since we just got Mordekaiser.
As for the Void or Piltover, I've struggled a bit to come up with anything for them.
Now with the new region of Ixtal and the inspirations it seems to take from Aztec (Or it at least appears to me) and/or similar cultures, it's a whole 'nother TREASURE TROVE of possible Juggernaut ideas!
I guess to end this, I just say (Like I did in some of those above posts I provided links to) I just LOVE Juggernauts and want to see them represented more in the game. If you've managed to read this far, thanks for reading my thoughts on this matter, and GL and HF in your games!

(By the way, how do I do colored text/headers or highlights in my posts? If someone can tell me I will gladly edit this post to probably be much better formatted than how it probably appears here. I tried following the guide that Laughing Fish had on the Memes and Games board, but it didn't seem to work. Probably just did something wrong; clarification would be greatly appreciated.)
