Ryze Exists

Rune Prison RANGE: 615 ACTIVE: Ryze instantly deals magic damage and roots the** target** enemy for 1 second. FLUX: Rune Prison's root duration is doubled to 2 seconds.

Varus RANGE: 575

So there's an obvious problem there that doesn't need to be explained so I'm not going to, instead I'm going to focus my effort on the absolute bullshit that is Ryze's current essence flux. It's a POINT AND CLICK ability with as much range as caitlyn's autoattacks (without drawing minion aggro) that passes through minions and can be used to keep all of ryze's passives on someone ON A LOWER COOLDOWN THAN THE PASSIVES THEMSELVES.

Meanwhile, Kench is a melee range champion with a skillshot that can be blocked by minions that only stuns after he has hit someone three times, and has a LONGER COOLDOWN THAN ACQUIRED TASTE'S WIND-DOWN. Because apparently, being able to point and click snare someone for 2 seconds at caitlyn auto-attack range and run away at the speed of sound is more fun and interactive than LANDING A BLOCKABLE SKILLSHOT FOUR TIMES IN A ROW.

When Ryze gets his inevitable fifth rework, you guys need to realize something. Point and click ranged hard CC is unhealthy for the game. Unless you plan on putting it on a 60 second cooldown, straight up just remove it from the game. Stop trying to balance him around it. It's not going to work. Give him a third ability, preferably something avoidable, and make his CC attached to activating his runes if you're so insistent on him being able to activate something that can be called a prison. And please, please, make it so he actually has to **hit a champion ** to activate his nonsense.

Why's a mage having a spell with the range of an auto attack a problem?

It has a cooldown and a mana cost. It also requires setup in order to get the most out of it.

Most good mid laners (or players) who get a Spell Flux mark on them, who know that you have Rune Prison up will walk away from you.

And considering that these are abilities almost automatically means they have greater range than auto attacks, since most abilities do in relative comparison.

The argument I'm trying to make here isn't that Ryze is OP, it's that regardless of how strong he is if I have the misfortune of playing against him with a character that he outranges and I don't have some form of heavy, reliable sustain, it's going to be one of the most aggravating experiences I've ever had in my entire life watching him smack me around and then run away no matter what because there's litteraly nothing I can do to stop it.

yeah let's forget that ryze can no longer reduce the cooldown of runic prison, which means that if he uses it in a fight and nothing is got out of this he can't use it anymore for a LONG TIME.

i'm a jhin main and when a syndra oneshot me with her point and click ulti, i just oneshot her with an AA.

so get better at playing instead of QQing about point and click spells when you're an adc with a point and click 800 damage ability that has no counterplay and potentially heals you for 10 or 20% of the damage if you buy lifesteal.

Well, you have two summoner spells.

You may not have liked what Requiemsfire said, but he is right about Ryze's mana consumption and tenancy to shove his lane. It actually becomes difficult for him to stack mana with a tear item when he has no minions to target. Believe it or not, this is a drawback of single target abilities. He has to have a target to cast those spells. With no targets he can not even reset his Q cooldown. This means he will very likely be running low on mana if he sticks around too much, unless he is building flat mana or mana regeneration items. Even still, if you pressure him he will have to use up his mana or back off.

Meanwhile, when he pushes up too much, your jungler should come gank him. Having only a single target stun means that he can not peel off of two targets simultaneously.

Look, I'll just put it this way. .. Does he counter you? Absolutely, pretty hard in fact! Can you and your team outplay him? Yes, you can.

Varus outranges Ryze's Rune Prison. Auto attack range is calculated differently than abilities. Don't believe me? Ryze's aa range is 550. Go into a custom game and compare his aa to Rune prison range. They're the same.

What do you propose? A skillshot root would just be Morgana's q. A delayed root, Swain already has.

Since you outrange Ryze by a lot (you have abilities too), just keep your distance. "keep your distance" is literally a quote from Ryze.
