Is there any skill difference between silver 4 and gold 3?

For the first season I have decided to give ranked a fair shake. The last 4 seasons I did less than 60 matches and as such never got above silver 3. This season i'm currently gold 5 and i'm still climbing. I would go so far as to say that my opponents are getting EASIER not harder. Sometimes I get matchmade against silver 3-4's sometimes I get matchmade against gold 3-4's. I can tell absolutely no difference in the difficulty. So is ELO busted or is the difference between a gold 3 and a silver 3 miniscule as far as skill and knowledge go?

Silver is a melting pot of player skill. I have 4 friends who are in the low end of silver. 1 is pretty good, another is just mediocre and the other 2 Im suprised they got in silver.

Silver is a place where a more skilled player (those that play at a higher MMR than most silvers) might have a rough patch or 2 trying to climb because of bad teamates. It is also filled with those that lucked out and had those skilled players carry them up the ladder and really shouldnt be there.

So long story short it really just depends on the player.

Edit: there are also some low golds that have me suprised they even got that far without help.

About the same, but gold players will scale up in difficulty the higher you climb.
