The Hidden Power of Viktor?

So I was learning another champion, Viktor. I take my runes and masteries and my opponent locks in Leblanc .

Since I usually main mages like Brand, Lux and Azir, I get flashbacks of terror, but instead of feeling like I'm going to have a terrible time like so many other times I've faced a Leblanc, I get fed up with being unable to fight her and only resorting to banning her.

So in laning I take Q first, and as soon as the minions come, she walks up to cs, completely ignoring me, and I run up to her, Q her, then AA her. I take full AP quints and some AP blues, and this chunks her health bear to 3/4. Immediately she reacts and distorts on me, but my q shield blocks most of it. I back off, winning the trade and feeling pretty good. When Q comes off cooldown I repeat the process, dropping her to half and forcing her to down a item 2010 .

When I hit 2 I take my death ray and start chunking her from a distance, and one hit forces her passive. She backs early and I shove to tower and back.

Eventually as the laning goes on my maxed out E chunks her for a large amount of health, and when she tries to burst me down a Q and W force her to blink back and I take minimal damage. I can't kill her because she's too slippery, but she can't kill me either, getting poked down too far to try every time she comes into lane.

The very next game I get paired with a Yasuo, and I'm feeling pretty good shutting down that LB, so I start Q and harras Yasou endlessly, with AA (to pop shield) Q then AA to chunk his small health bar. I don't bother using E as he would just dodge it and would keep hitting him with Q, until he started Windwalling whenever I walked close to him, in which case I Q'd a minion then hit him through the wall with an empowered AA.

Eventually he got fed up and tried to all in me, when I dropped a W. With no minions left for him to dash away, he got stunned. E+ult and he's dead. I keep doing this to him, and he's clearly tilted as he tries to all in me several more times. But I always run with Ghost and poke him down with E and Q before killing him.

So my question is, is Viktor a good counter to these champs, or do we as mid lane mages have a chance to fight back against these annoying champions when we step up and bring the offensive to them, taking them off guard?

Honestly, most Mages can deal with LeBlanc and Yasuo, it's just some take a ton of mastering to do so

or both have to be very bad

True, I had a Lvl 7 Lux beat a LB in lane once.

Viktor has been a great powerhouse for a while now. He has some unparalleled shoving power, good range, and a kit that requires the enemy to position correctly and stay mobile. He is also a terror in team fights. Plus, with how strong Rylai's is right now, it's no wonder he's so good.

Viktor is fairly good versus champs like LB due to the ability to mitigate damage and to punish the usual mobility she has. Leblanc is very squishy and depends on unloading a kit and getting out. Due to the nature of Viktor's W and E, Leblanc's distortion isn't as reliable in getting out unscathed as against someone like Xerath.

He also has a special kit; one that works in two parts all around. Unlike other mages, all of Viktor's spells have two parts to them. Getting afflicted with the first part makes Viktor's kit mediocre compared to other mages, the second part makes him better than other mages. What I mean by this is that Viktor's kit has more utility and damage than other mages if you allow him the time to hit you with 100% of it. That being both E's, stun on W, auto on Q, and procs on ult. Just land the first part of every spell and you have a weak mage, get hit by the second part of each and he's the strongest mage.

So LB, who usually prides herself in outdamaging her opponent in a burst like fashion loses some burst due to shield and a champion that can do extreme damage from a range. Plus he can just shove the wave and clear hard. LB is bad at farming by design, and Viktor can just force her under tower after E is upgraded.

Yasuo requires going all in and without a proper dashing set up, stunning him with W and annihilating him is almost guaranteed. Same concept.

Ah good to know, guess it's a good thing I'm learning him then.

To me, it sounds like that LB wasn't very experienced. She deals more damage than Viktor in the early game, but she made the same mistake over and over again, by letting you first hit her. Good LBs I played against attack first, and the small shield doesn't help too much. She comes out on top when it comes to damage. Yasuo isn't a problem to deal with, unless he goes immediately attack speed Yasuo. That's when he can get problematic when I'm playing Viktor.

Well at least now I know not to get too confident next time I face one.

Yeah, it's always good to not be too confident. Good luck in the future!
