Why on earth are MMR and rank two different parameters?

Honestly, why not just match gold players with gold players, and those in plat with opponents who are also plat?

What's the point in using a hidden MMR to make matchmaking more ridiculous when you've got a direct divisional rank to judge people on?

The whole judging portion is actually why its hidden. Its to stop dick waving contests.

As far as why I could be silver and play with gold 1 MMR I don't have an answer for you there. I personally think its to force a 50% winrate.

100% agree, I have written a bunch of posts about this but no one seems to care to even take a look at what it would mean. I think it would be a better system.

Well, to put it simply, because promos exist. Without promos, MMR=Rank

Too many games would be ruined by people that belong either higher or lower and they are on their way to their final rank. MMR also matters for your LP gain/loss. So you can think of them as different variants regarding the same thing. Imagine your Current rank as your position and your current MMR as your velocity

You get what I mean? You need two metrics really to determine what each match's result should mean. This is explained very simply here but I got autofilled English
