NEW Gangplank is Broken.

Again.

So meanwhile, how about discussing the new GangplankGangplank. Just, whatever you guys think of him so far. Warning: My post has a lot of words.

Currently, I'm sitting on an 81% winrate in Silver as GangplankGangplank. (I've also had a Nunu ask if that was out of 4 matches. LOL. Math is too hard.) 22Wins, 5Losses as of this post. You are welcome to check op.gg It might only be Silver, but 81% is still 81%.

I hope what you guys find of interest is that I don't build item 3078 , as some players have "strongly insisted" that I do. item 1056 item 3071 item 3158 item 3508 item 3022 item 3742 item 3156 item 3050 item 3072 item 3009 item 3025 item 3901 item 3903 These are the items I like, depending on what I feel is necessary.

I've tried AP, during which I realized Lich proc didn't affect barrel damage. One of my first losses, no surprise.

I've tried stacking health, during which I realized it's just as cost-efficient as building AP when it comes to healing during a fight (assuming I lose the bonus health first).

I've tried stacking damage, during which I realized I could kill their farmed tanky Nasus by repeatedly applying true damage from my passive.

I've tried maxing cooldowns, after which I decided that I DO like popping barrels every 3 seconds when my Q is up (as opposed to every 5).

I've even tried using item 3508 after finding that I spent a lot of mana while farming in between fights and recovering HP with oranges.

Ultimately, I've found that maxed cooldowns and a mix of health and damage with applicable slows ASIDE from the less reliable barrels provide the best results.

Building health is obvious, I'm sure, so let's talk about why building 40% cooldown reduction and Raw AD seems to work well.

40% Reduction of Cooldowns: Not only does the lowered Q cooldown allow for more gold and SS farming, it further exacerbates the need of the enemy laner to beat GangplankGangplank somehow, since breaking even in cs / kills means being behind due to Q. Should they not accomplish anything, well, GangplankGangplank is ahead.

Lowered W cooldown also relieves some of the pressure that enemy laners with more than one CC ability can exert if they get ahead due to jungler help.

The reduced cooldown on the Ultimate also allows GangplankGangplank to assist his team more frequently, without even leaving his lane. Sure, he might have to be more cautious of the enemy laner afterwards, but again, just breaking even in lane means being ahead in gold and it's not too difficult with maxed cooldowns.

Raw AD instead of Crit and Trinity item 3078: There's a simple reason for building raw AD instead of crit chance or Trinity. Crit chance and trinity don't increase his passive's damage as much as building raw AD does.

Now you might be thinking, just how often could you proc the true damage passive to make building Raw AD worthwhile? Crit and Trinity increase barrel damage more!

Well, with maxed cooldowns, GangplankGangplank can pop a barrel with Q every 3 seconds even if he can't reach it, and he can also pop a barrel with an AA and follow up by utilizing the movespeed boost and slows from items / chained barrels.

So the answer: very frequently. Just be sure that the barrels to be used for passive resets aren't linked together needlessly. The important part here is that while landing a hit from a barrel is unreliable, thus making the Crit damage and Trinity procs on barrels unreliable (else, mitigated more by armor), the melee passive proc used following the movespeed boost from popping a barrel is often easier to land.

If necessary, the Ultimate can be activated to slow the enemy while providing GangplankGangplank and his team with a movespeed boost. item 3903 really should not be underestimated.

Speaking of ults, I personally think GangplankGangplank excels in teamfights with AoE damage, followed up with passive procs, slows, and a strong ability to chase down fleeing enemies as long as they haven't completely escaped barrel range.

Well placed ults can turn around many teamfights as long as it's not a complete steamroll, with a large amount of AoE magic damage, an AoE slow linked to the damage, and an AoE movespeed boost for allies that even persists for 2 sec. after leaving the area.

I personally attribute my winrate to a combination of all that was mentioned above, with everything (particularly the Q farming and global ult) increased in frequency with the maxed CDR.

I suppose I'll end my GangplankGangplank post with my overall opinion that the new Gangplank is absolutely amazing and is now my favorite champion thus far. And hopefully people stop questioning my damn item 3071 ! The armor shred is just a bonus (and I don't need to hesitate as much to stick to tanks if I don't need to go after anyone else).

That said, how do you other GangplankGangplank players feel about the new Gangplank?

Have at it.

I normally go Triforce, then either IE or Shiv, depending on fedness, then full tank. I like a Bruisery Gangplank. I was able to 1v2 a Thresh and a fed AP Eve, and kill the Eve before dying.

I'll try what you do, with a Cleaver. But maybe combine it with Iceborn, to add a bigger slow to the Barrels and on the pistol shot. Followed by full tank, with stuff like Dead Man's Plate and the new Sterak's Gage.

Slows don't stack anymore. item 3025 would be a waste.

To be honestly I think that clown is broken. I have played a few matches that he just builds item 3078 then full tank. Even after doing that if you happen to get hit by a barrel he will do 1/3 of anyone's hp that is in it. To me the barrels don't seem hard to set up or use properly because of how the chain works. And when laning vs a GP you cant fight him as a melee well he pokes you freely. Mostly I have seen them throw a barrel and laugh as your time to die slowly approaches.

Then that ult.... He stands in lane getting tripple kills on bot lane and BAM you lose lane because he presses r one time YAY!!!!

Definitely gonna have to try out these items, but i still like the hydra and shiv procs on his barrels. add a tforce and you do a lot of damage, but i can settle for hydra and shiv, and then take a bruiser build.

Love him so much. I normally don't "main" any champ per se, and rarely play high damage carries, but I feel like this may be the birth of a new Gangplank main. His barrel game and burst are so good and he utterly annihilates squishies with one E E Q E combo from huge range. Poke, AOE, slows, speed, this guy has it all and I want it.

I'll try those builds you suggested, but item 3078 and item 3031 have been working okay for me so far. Should definitely start maxing cooldown reduction.

I love the new GP... it's so fun blowing up people with the barrels when you have crits

I use 20% crit chance runes on him whenever I get a chance to play him

Yeah, I am trying different builds too since I discovered his ult is ap. (Tell me, when a cannon did magic damage in past times ? Pirates weren't magical creatures. Oh well, back to the topic. XD)

I pretty found him great too. For the 4 games I played, I only lost one and carried one of them by beating turrets after turrets. MY ARAM was really good too.

I think the cd is really important because you can use more the ult but ... AP is important too to get more kills with it.

I really like your suggestions about Trinity force and I will try Infinite Edge too.

Gangplanck will surely be my third pick for top-lane after Shen and Wukong. I love his playstyle different form my other two and thus letting me have more possibilities for comps.

P.S.: Sorry for mistakes in english.

I agree about CDR. I typically try to hit 30% on second item, usually 15% for runes/masteries, 15% from boots outside of special cases where other boots are warranted. Double passive application is pretty silly, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it go away, but honestly, the barrels are super binary. The enemy either has to eat them or will never be touched by them.

The ultimate is still as disappointing as old GP's, only now you can't go mageplank and annihilate an entire team. The only place it truly shines is ARAM because of passive SS generation-- a mechanic that should come to SR, only toned down, so you can actually get and use an upgrade.

I don't DISLIKE the rework, but new GP suffers from the same problems the old one did. He has mana problems. He has cast times. He has no hard CC. He has no mobility. If any one of those had been addressed sufficiently, the champ would've been instantly relevant.

This is my build.

Start with a flask and pots for obvious reasons, unless you're facing an AD top that might need cloth armor.

after item 3093 , rush item 3508 . Spammable Q all day erryday.

pick up item 3024 for mana, CDR, and some armor.

Grab item 3065 if you're taking lots of ap damage, or just need your oranges + item 3508 to be more effective.

Get item 3025 after. Pick it up first if you need more armor.

This brings your CDR to 30%. Make sure you have 4 pts in the Sorcery Mastery for an additional 5% CDR, and then pick up two Quintessences of CDR to cap your CDR at 40%.

From here, you'll probably want to pick up your item 3087.

This brings your total to 4 items, 5 with boots if you haven't purchased them already. I like to grab item 1305. You don't need item 3111 because Oranges, you don't need item 3047 unless you're facing a heavy AD team, and you don't need item 3117 because your R and your summoner 12 are your mobility, you don't need item 3006 because you're a bruiser, and you don't need item 3158 because you already have capped CDR.

As for your last item, grab whatever you think will be most efficient. item 3031 is usually very effective, as well as item 3074 due to the AoE proc coupled with your Parrrley and your item 3025.
