Void Staff needs a variation

Physicals already get a plethora of options for physical penetration and the two major options provide additional effects (i.e. increased damage vs higher health targets & a grievous wounds effect).

Either:

  1. Increase Void Staffs AP Value (80+) and give it 15 flat magic pen. (Without raising its value)

or

  1. Create two variations that have different effects. a) Shaman's Staff: AP (80) (magic pen (40%) Unique Passive: Damage is increased by x amount on targets with greater health than you. b) Staff of Malice: AP (80) (magic pen 35%) Flat Magic Pen (15) Unique Passive: Every time an enemy is hit by a spell, a portion of the damage is gained as a temporary shield. The shield lasts for x amount of seconds and scales with level. (note Being hit by crowd control effects will deplete the shield entirely, cause it to go on cool down, but will absorb the non-ulimate CC. 30+ seconds before you can charge your shield.)

A lot of magic damage is easily mitigated by anyone who simply builds Spirit Visage or any MR item because almost every magic resist item used by non-ap champions gives health making the item more effective within itself. Whatever happened to buying MR and then health? Not at the same time.

Okay, what literal reason would there to pick Void staff over Liandry's if you changed it to flat pen? It is literally a worse version of it

Also, I'm fairly certain that everyone (except for thresh) gets armor per level

Not everyone gets MR per level, so adding more flat pen means that it's even easier to blow people up. If you go 12/18 with Magic pen reds, by the time you get sorc boots you already have about 30 flat pen right there.

We don't need Liandry's. Current health damage is poop on everyone who isn't a DPS Mage. Yes, everyone gets armor per level, but physicals have scaling basic attacks. So it doesn't really matter because as an AD your basics will always be relevant. Dealing consistent damage through basics will yield more damage even against an armored target than a burst mage dealing with magic resist.

I'm not saying I want mages to burst tanks. No. There is too much health in this game for that to even be relevant. But I feel mages should have a better late game option because when it gets the late game, you're as irrelevant as MF who went top lane.

So yes, maybe flat pen on Void would outshine Liandrys, but Liandrys is a noobtrap anyway.
