Arcane blade didn't help you as much as you think.

People have been mourning this mastery since it's death, but in reality, it's pretty ass.

It adds 5% of your ap to your aa, which means that early game, it adds very little damage. With a dorans ring, you do a whopping 1 extra damage. By the time you finish an item, you're probably doing about 5 magic damage, which is going to be reduced by the minion's magic resist.

Meanwhile, the savagery mastery adds 5 true damage to your aa, out doing arcane blade throughout the early game. So really, it's even easier than before to last hit.

If memory serves, S5 was when minions had resists converted into flat health. Stealth Trundle buffs OP.

5 damage to AA'ing minions early, but doesn't scale. +1 damage to AA's early, but scales. It also added some minor scaling damage to AA-based mages, like Kayle/Diana/Fizz.

There's also the concept that it was 1 mastery point, compared to 5. I'll admit, they were at different levels with Savagery being available for the first five points early, compared to Arcane Blade as a pretty late tier in offense. But most mages went 21/0/9 regardless, so.

You are assuming people only used it to last hit. However it also increased your damage to champions. So champs like Diana, Kayle, Fizz, AP Kog etc. found it to be very useful. Savagery only affects minions, so what you should have said was "arcane blade didn't help last hitting as much as people thought". In PVP, it was infinitely better than savagery.

It helped on on-hit AP champions though.

5 attacks was an extra 25% AP, which was decent. Teemo, Kayle, and Warwick really liked this item.
