Why were the Dodge Seals removed?

Saw Riot's Champion Spotlight video and the champ is using Dodge seals. Do players who bought the Dodge seals able to keep them or was it completely removed?

Damn that must've been one old spotlight. Dodge (and dodge seals) were removed as a stat ages ago. The current form of dodge is more of a buff like shields or cc immunity.

The dodge stat was removed because of things like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gI1aeS5H1Vs

Since the stat was removed, so were the runes.

They were completely removed and refunded. They were pretty hilariously broken especially when Jax had dodge on his E instead of the current version. Singed also enjoyed them with the old movespeed after a dodge mastery. I liked them, but I understand why they had to go. Shame crit didn't go with them.

I'm pretty sure they were refunded, but that happened before I started playing the game.

Dodge was removed because random dodge chance made 1v1 duels way too dependent on the RNG, much more than even crit creates.

Some people argue that dodge and crit are basically the same thing, but it really isn't. A player sitting at 1 hp with 30% dodge chance can survive 3 autos from the enemy with a reasonable amount of luck (1 in 27 situations like this end up with 3 dodges in a row) which is often enough time to kill the enemy. All crit can do is reduce the number of hits it takes to kill an opponent by one half with a perfect string of luck, both players still have a pretty reliable window of possibilities for how long it will take to be killed by auto attacks even in a best-case scenario and when they see a string of crits happen at the start of the fight they can tell that things aren't going their way and attempt to disengage.
