Why did i drop a tier after losing only 1 game with 0LP while having a higher MMR than the average?

Hello, so i encountered a problem where i got to DIA 4 played 2 games, won them and then played 3 games losing 2, winning 1 and getting placed at 0 lp.. I was still at DIA 3 MMR but the next game i lost i instantly got demoted to DIA 5... any ideas why?

This is happening across all ranks apparently. This didn't used to be a thing right? It happened to my friend in Bronze 2>3 and to me in Gold 2>3.

I thought the instatier drop safety happened only when you first get to the new rank at 0 LP. You did play quite a lot of games, so I think the ranking system just decided you were in for a drop.

I don't pay a lot of ranked so I wouldn't know though.
