No. The Malzahar Rework does NOT need to be reverted

As I have said before, and sadly have to say again, anyone who thinks the MYMU for Malzahar needs to be reverted either doesn't know much about Malz or doesn't realize how much better he is since the update.

I have been playing basically only Malzahar for the past 4 years and I can tell you that his new kit is way more fun, unique, and easier for working with your team than his previous kit. I have detailed this all in the discussion below.

The people that want ti reworked are the kids that wanna just press E on people and forget about it while their opponent loses 80% of their HP, and suppress people with ulti for 60% of their HP.

Malzahars MYMU made his kit more cohesive, satisfying and healthier. And while it has its own issues, it is none the less an improvement over the original. Reverting him would not do any good for him.

It would enable him to be played min lane again.

No it wouldn't. It would actually make him even more obscene as a support imho. The only thing Prework Malz had that Rework Malz had that made him more attractive support was Rylais' price drop and the introduction of Redemption and the changes to locket. Why? because those items basically make it easier for any champ to "support". his lane poke would become even more obsene if he was reverted and his ultimate would do 60% of someone's HP bar instead of being used primarily for the CC like it is now. His Old W would be super strong zone control with Rylais as a support as well.

nothing about his passive or his new voidlings are healthy

Ofc it is. His voildlings gate his damage by making it avoidable, whereas before he just clicked on you with E and you lost 80% of your HP.

His Passive makes him harder to all in but can be poked out, giving him a window of vulnerability. Since he now has to commit more to get worthwhile damage out with his E W and Q, he is encouraged to sue his Passive for trades. In contrast, Old Malzahar's passive might as well not even be in his kit and his interaction amounted to him clicking on you. then backing off as you lost more than half your HP, him Clicking E on a minion and watching it eat a whole minion wave.

He was very uninteractive, both for the player and the person playing against him.

Neither is pool and ult imo. Which is what comes with a revert.

i won't say old kit was good but it was a lot more intuitive when it comes to his old passive and how he played around it for summons

Why are you lying t yourself? his old passive was basically free gold for the enemy laner.

Neither is fire and forget herpes and just watch it penta kill off the power of E alone. Voidlings are already super easy to escape, and soon look like they'll just be easy to kill anyway.

his Voidlings aren't fire and forget tho. You control and guide them with your E and your Q and ulti refreshes. Mindlessly licking them literally doesnt accomplish anythign by itself.

The condition that he's in right now has me wondering why he's still a champion. He's not completely useless, but due to the kit he was given, he was punished, due to people exploring possibilities with him. His kit as it is right now, is outright toxic to himself. I can't imagine someone saying this is ok with a straight face.

His passive is overpowered. Take off that bullshit spellshield and I will never complain about his lack of counterplay ever again. He has a very long ranged silence, a point-click suppress, and he has a bunch of little critters that will get up in your face and make it hard to him with any skillshots (at least skillshots that don't go through minions). To add to all this his damage is pretty insane. Put I'm willing to ignore all of that if you just get rid of that damn spellshield passive so we actually have a chance to counterplay against him.

Imo just remove the damage reduction on his passive.

As someone who actually plays mostly Malzahar, I can tell you he cannot wave clear without minions. After he does put a minion down, it can be easily killed and he is vulnerable. The main reason he works as support is he no longer needs to manage minions as he doesn't need to wave clear and focus solely on poking which is easier when visions only has 2 targets.

My main point here is not saying that Malzahar is in a healthy state, I'm saying that reverting his update is not going to fix any problems he has right now.

Erockandroll1 votes

I think people are missing the point here. Malz currently has problems, Old malz has problems. And Riot is closer to giving Malz a new rework than to revert to the old version.

As someone who has played basically only Malzahar for even longer than you I have to say that yes, he is in desperate need for either a revert or another rework. Malzahar as a spell-nuker rather than a minion-spawner worked objectively seen much, much better.

Voidlings should just be untargetable and not duplicate, with the numbers on his kit rebalanced to account for changes. That would make it significantly easier to tell how much damage Malz will do allowing him to be more easily balanced. With the current design minions either hit critical mass and explode to do insane damage, or they don't and all of them die and do nothing. When so much power is put into an ability that is unreliable it makes the character impossible to balance across more than one level of play, leading to situations like this.
