Sona Sona - The Maven of the Strings

The reason why I decided to make this update was because I don't feel like Sona feels like a muse. She isn't enchanting or inspiring and her Auras aren't even... Auras, really. Please let me know what you think. Thanks for reading!

Edit: I would actually like for Riot to include MORE music in her Auras during these times. They need to be more dynamic!

Passive: Power Chord - AURA: Sona's basic abilities each generate a unique aura for 3 seconds that empowers her and all allied champions who enter its radius, also incurring a .5 / 1-second period during which she cannot cast her other basic abilities. Each aura's duration is extended by 0.5 seconds for each allied champion it empowers, up to a maximum of 5 seconds.

Power Chord: After casting 3 basic abilities, Sona's next basic attack deals xx-xx (based on level) (+ xx% AP) bonus magic damage, with an additional effect depending on the last basic ability cast.

Power Chord resets Sona's autoattack timer.

Q - Hymm of Valor: ACTIVE: Sona sounds out a concentrated blast of sound that travels in a long, wide line in the direction of her choosing that damages all enemies hit. (Minions will take 15% less damage per Minion hit to a maximum of 60% less damage. Champions remain unaffected by this).

AURA: Sona begins to play a rhythmic and powerful song. Sona and her allies deal bonus magic damage on every basic attack until the effect ends. The bonus damage continues to increase for each second that Hymm of Valor is the active Aura. If an Ally leaves the Aura, the bonus damage resets and they do not gain the bonus at the end of the Aura. If an Ally manages to stay within the Aura until its finish, they are granted bonus magic damage on their next ability (if the ability is an AA enhancer, it will be used on their next basic. If the next ability is an Ally buff, it will be, instead, transferred to that Ally) - this bonus will NOT activate for Sona since she is the originator of the Aura and is within its range all the time.

STACCATO: Power Chord deals xx% bonus damage, dealing xx - xxx (based on level) (+ xx% AP) bonus magic damage.

W - Aria of Perseverance: TOGGLE/AURA: Sona begins to play the soothing Aria of Perseverance. All Allies within the Aura are healed for a flat amount each second. The heal increases for every second the Aura is active. If an Ally leaves the Aura the heal resets and they do not gain the bonus at the end of the Aura. If an Ally manages to stay within the Aura for the full duration, they are granted a temporary damage shield for x amount of seconds. (This ability is considered a toggle since it doesn't have an actual active component. The cool down would still be high.)

DIMINUENDO: Power Chord reduces its target's damage output by xx% (+ x% per xx AP) for 3 seconds.

E - Song of Celerity: ACTIVE: Sona's music turns upbeat and exciting. Sona is granted bonus movement speed that decays down to Song of Celerity's aura bonus over 3 seconds. The duration is increased by 0.5 seconds for each ally she tags with the aura.

TEMPO: Power Chord Slow icon slows its target by xx% (+ x% per xxx AP) for 2 seconds.

**AURA: **Allies within the Aura are granted bonus movement speed that ramps up for every second they remain in the Aura. The bonus resets if an Ally leaves the Aura and they do not gain the bonus at the end of the Aura. If an Ally manages to stay within the Aura for the full duration, they are granted bonus movement speed for an additional 2 seconds and are slow immune for the 2 seconds.

**Ultimate/R - Crescendo: ** PASSIVE: Concerto - If Sona uses Crescendo while she has Power Chord active the effects of the Aura she most recently cast will apply to all enemies hit but at half-effectiveness (not duration). The effects will be inflicted after Crescendo's stun has ended. (I.E. She will deal bonus damage with Staccato, cause all enemies to deal less damage with Diminuendo, and slow enemies with Tempo.)

ACTIVE: Sona plays an irresistible chord in a line, dealing magic damage to enemy champions and stunning them for 1.75 seconds, forcing them to dance for the duration. The stun duration is reduced to 1 second if Sona used Crescendo with Power Chord active.

That's my idea~ I didn't add a majority of the numbers because I would have no idea how to balance that. Please comment and tell me what you think!

Thanks!

If Sona's AoE effects are still temporary, they still don't count as auras. Auras don't have a time limit or a cooldown. I'd strongly suggest removing every instance of the word "Aura" and replace it with something else: Fortissimo; Vibrato; Concerto; Resonance - just a few examples.

This is definitely an improvement over her current kit and I see several great ideas recycled from other forum threads as well. I understand why you don't want to post numbers, but without at least a general idea of what she'd provide she could very well end up even weaker than she is now. Some important points:

  • Will her spells still be melee-range or will they actually retain usable ranges once again?
  • Will her cooldowns match again, like they're supposed to? And will they be short enough to not gimp her like they currently do?
  • Will her durations be long enough for allies to actually utilize the effects?
  • Will her short commercial diddies(they aren't real songs if they have a time limit) continue resonating, at least for a second if she swaps commercials before the full effect? Either or, what of the final effect?
  • Will her base stats and scalings see SIGNIFICANT buffs, particularly to compensate for her continued lack of reliable CC and mobility?
  • Will her spells' stats and scalings be buffed to be in-line with others supports? (Yes or No will suffice for this one)
  • Will her mana costs be reduced?

Since Riot has been throwing the word 'Aura' around in her kit, I decided to keep the verbage the same. But I do agree with your point. It would be nice to add some more musical terms to her tool-tips.

I will have to go through and decide the numbers. I like the amount of feedback you put into your response. I would like this to be a collaboration of ideas and not just a single entity since we all like LoL and want to improve champions. Especially Sona.

Thank you for your time. I will consider these thoughts and try and add them as necessary when I get a chance.

They don't have to be exact numbers, small details like that are hammered out during progression. I'm just looking for ballpark figures and comparisons here. As Sona currently stands, near every single number on her is either worst or 2nd-worst at least amongst the support class, if not in the entire game. It'd be great if I could place her next to Bard/Nami and not see that Sona loses in every/almost every side-by-side comparison.

I can also give my own ideas of what these should look like if at all interested.

You're right. I usually refrained from posting numbers because I feared the whole "OP, downvote" thing. So I'll add some in the bottom of the post as an edit. That way it looks cleaner to look at as well.

I was definitely thinking that her wave clear wouldn't be great on her own so she won't be an auto pick for top or mid lane, but I feel she should do ONE thing better than other supports or if she's going to be a jack of all trades, that she is given potential to do everything better if she plays well while still relying on her teammates to understand how she works.

Thanks again for your input Pika. Much obliged.

This is sort of what I've been trying to advertise, that Sona needs a rework that sticks for more than 1 month. I feel like the Ability idea here is great

I always forget about the ideas I post here. Locating them is very difficult. But hey, please let me know what you think. I should be able to clean up the verbage later on.
