What makes no sense here is that they said in the patch notes they want him to feel more like old galio where he was basically a tanky ap mage. However, that only worked because he got AP by building tanky. After they nerfed his Q in a hotfix they said they expected people to build tank items with SOME ap. But why on earth would people do that? Old galio made sense because you got scaling damage based on your MR.

Now? People are doing one of 2 builds. They are either going full AP or full tank. No one is doing hybrid because it makes no sense. He's not designed to be a bruiser, because ya know, mages can't be bruisers and when they, they are usually extremely toxic ( Fizz, ekko ). Also, everything about Galio that feels unfair or unfun to play against is only made worse by buffing his AP ratios. What is happening here???

If you want Galio to be a tank and he's too good at it, nerf his tankiness. If you want him to be a mage, then rework him because nothing about his kit was designed with him being a mage in mind, let's be real here. If you want him to be a mage bruiser, well good luck because, historically, the only mage bruisers that have worked in the past, fizz and ekko, were good because they were designed to have incentives to auto attack, ya know, like all other bruisers.

And Riot wonders why everyone calls the balance team silver players. The changes make no sense, Riots direction for him make no sense, their reasoning is pretty bad. It just seems Riot is really confused.

I see where I think the balance team was going. Look how they nerfed tank ekko and buffed ap ekko last year. That's basically their theory behind the galio rebalance. Force him to build SOME ap and not full armor stacking in order to maximize tankiness and damage. However, they definitely got the numbers wrong. Right theory, wrong execution. And the scaling ap on all abilities he had before getting hotfixed... should have been obvious that they were horribly overtuned. That version should never have reached live.
