So the first time you guys moved your servers, I went from 72 ping to 92. Now your so called server upgrade and mitigation raised my ping another 8 to 100. Not to mention all the people on the east coast getting shafted. How can you claim your game is balanced when you cant balance the ping. I'm pretty irritated all around with how this went down. I've spent hundreds of dollars on this game. Other countries have multiple servers so what the %$^%# ^###^%%^$ is the problem.

8 more is a lot because now im over 100 so fuck that i just played a game on north latin america to test it and im in the low 70's please fucking explain that to me how that works.

These events probably are not related. Riot didn't move any servers recently and so far has not announced plans to move NA servers anytime soon.

Probably your increased ping has something to do with telecom companies screwing their customers to strongarm content companies into paying more fees. Again.

Even if that's the case tell these %%%^& at riot to pay up. I have to pay for my internet usage and I've spent plenty on their game for them to give a shit about their players. As I'm sure any frequent player of the game has. They made a billion dollars in micro transactions. They have the mother $^$#^&^ money. Stop being greedy.

It's not something money can fix. Well, more accurately, it's not something the amount of money Riot has can fix. How much do you think Netflix is paying Comcast to prioritize their video traffic? NetFlix is a $20B company. Comcast is a $140B company. Riot is a tiny fish in the internet game.

What Riot needs, and I know this is going to be super frustrating, is time. While they can't buy paid prioritization from all the major ISPs, they can buy a new facility to put servers in and lay big fat fiber lines to those ISPs with. The problem is that you have 3 different levels of government that all need to approve your new server farm, then you have to negotiate with half a dozen other companies...it's not a quick process.

$0. Because it is an interconnect agreement. There is no prioritizing.

Although the deal doesn't technically violate net neutrality, because it concerns peering with other networks, Comcast is absolutely prioritizing Netflix traffic through their policy of paid direct interconnection with Netflix. Packets delivered by non-paying entities like Cogent are being throttled by Comcast refusing to upgrade their peering ports.

In effect, there are already fast and slow lanes on the internet.

What Riot needs is to put servers somewhere other than Portland, one of the stupidest places they could possibly put servers.

Portland is quite an excellent place to put servers. Cheap green power, plentiful IT talent, and direct fiber access to almost every tier 1 ISP. Many companies have servers in or near Portland, including Google, Facebook, Apple, Intel, Amazon ...

The thing is, when Riot decided to pick Portland, they didn't know that Comcast and Verizon would try to kill settlement-free peering with said tier 1 ISPs.

Actually they made massive infrastructure changes, including moving servers. Hence the 16 hour downtime.

You got any supporting evidence for this?

Riot installed new servers, and new software on existing servers, but to my knowledge the NA servers continue to be located in Los Angeles and Portland.

Personally I think they don't need to open up a Eastern server as long as they can balance it by putting the server in CENTRAL. That way West and East can get it, south and its more centralized. I personally think splitting NA would be a bad decision since it splits the player-base and ultimately increases queue times especially in higher ranked queue. Either way most people would move to East or West having a constant greater number on one than the other because cross-country friends and the higher player base effect.
