How do such bad players get to Gold?

So, I just hit Gold 5 a few days ago with a high MMR of Gold 2 and was super hyped.

I started off on a winning streak and quickly got to 95 LP.

Then, it all went to shit.

Trolls every game, people who refuse to listen to pings, int feeders, afks, toxic players, and opponents who constantly BM and call me shit, tell me to kill myself, etc.

Just...why? Is it my winning streak, does Riot just want me to drop back to Silver, is it just pure bad luck?

My MMR has now dropped three divisions.

Can someone please explain to me what is happening, and why?

That's funny, same thing happened to me. I went on a win streak and climbed to Gold 3 with like a 70% win rate and gold 1 mmr, but then I had people trolling like 10 games in a row. I'm back in gold 5 now with a 50% win rate and my motivation to play well is now nonexistent.

Baseline MMR , boosted by duo, or just get really lucky and get teammates that constantly carry them.
